Our on-campus facilities have well-equipped student laboratories, and are set up to simulate a working animal hospital with treatment, surgery, isolation and radiograph rooms. Students are therefore able to obtain real-life veterinary hospital experience. In addition, farm visits, field trips, and on-campus speakers and seminars add to the learning experience of our veterinary technician students.
We are very proud of our large teaching laboratory, where the majority of our lab classes and open labs are held. We are very fortunate to have this lab dedicated to the sole use of the Veterinary Technician Program. This well equipped, spacious lab is set up with twelve student workstations. Each station has a stainless steel examination table, oxygen and electrical connections as well as examination lights. This room is also equipped with a large tub for bathing and grooming of animals, and two state of the art dental stations.
Our surgical suite includes two heated, hydraulic surgical tables, two sets of surgical lights, a large observation area and state of the art surgical, anesthetic, and monitoring equipment. We have a variety of different types of monitoring equipment to familiarize our students with such as pulse oximeters, blood pressure monitors and capnograph machines.
The surgical scrub room has a large sink with multiple knee-operated levers, foot pedal operated soap dispensers, two types of autoclaves, an ultrasonic surgical instrument cleaner, and an observation window into the surgical suite. It mimics a busy surgical hospital and allows for multiple students to prepare for surgical procedures.
Our pharmacy is fully equipped with medication to properly care for the teaching animals in the facility. We are prepared for any emergency or medical situation that may arise.
Laboratory animals are kept in a separate room equipped with cages of various sizes appropriate for the individual species of laboratory animals. We also provide them with a variety of enrichment items for their activity and exercise.
Our dog kennel provides a clean and safe environment for the dogs housed in our facility. This room includes six large runs, and fifteen stainless steel cages of various sizes. Each spacious dog run includes a drain, and an elevated bed for its occupant.

The outdoor dog run gives our dogs the opportunity to get some fresh air, as well as play, exercise and interact with our students in a large outdoor area multiple times a day.
Our cats stay in the quiet and relaxing cat playroom. The cat playroom is equipped with "cat condos". These condos are large cages specifically designed for cats, which have places to climb and play as well as room for all the necessities.
The lead-lined x-ray room provide facilities for the exposure and processing of radiographs by students. The x-ray room has a radiograph unit, adjustable table, and dental x-ray machine as well as a pass-through to the developing room for exchange of films. The large observation window into the classroom allows students to observe procedures in progress.
The x-ray developing room has both automatic, manual, and chair side dental processing units with a pass-through to the x-ray room for exchange of films. A special rotating door prevents light exposure to the undeveloped films while allowing students and instructors to come and go.
The Examination Room is equipped like a veterinary clinic's exam room. The room is used to examine animals and to give our students an opportunity to practice their exam room skills.
The Food Prep Room is the hub of our clinic where the students take care of all the needs of our animals such as preparing food, water, and medications. We are equipped with a procedure/treatment board to ensure communication between our staff and students.
The Laundry Room is equipped with a washer and dryer, utility sink, and all the equipment necessary to keep the facilities clean.
The Isolation Room is for any of our animals needing special care or attention while they stay with us. This room is designed to keep any sick animals from infecting healthy animals while they receive care. The Isolation room is also equipped with an oxygen therapy cage, nebulizers, IV pumps, and fluid warmers. We follow strict AVMA and AAHA isolation protocols for the health of our animals, and to mimic an actual isolation situation in a clinic setting.
The hematology laboratory contains twenty-five student workstations. Each student has the use of their own state-of-the-art microscope and a variety of automatic hematology analyzers. We participate in many equipment-training programs and have new models of analyzers to demonstrate the most up to date equipment to our students. We also have a microscope digital camera and screen that can project and save images found in class and preserve them for future demonstration. The hematology lab is also equipped with a double headed teaching microscope, centrifuges, an incubator, a fume hood, and a refrigerator.
