Welcome to the Quality Systems Technology program at Macomb Community College. This program is designed to provide a strong background in the Metrology discipline. National, international, and industry standards are referenced and utilized. Students pursuing a career as a laboratory technician will receive "hands-on" experience with hand tools, SPC, gauge blocks, GD&T, surface texture, roundness, optical comparators, laser, vision systems, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM).
Courses for a career in quality management include skills for planning, systems, project management, controlling costs, leadership, problem solving, and auditing for ISO 9000 and QS 9000. Interpersonal skills as well as methods of preparing professional audio/visual computer based presentations are emphasized.
This program is excellent preparation for national certification with the American Society for Quality (ASQ). Most students completing the fundamental courses are prepared to sit for the Certified Mechanical Inspector (CMI) test. Students completing the certificate program are also prepared to sit for the Certified Quality Technician (CQT) test. The active ASQ student chapter offers many benefits. The Skill Specific Certificate will provide entry level employment skills.
Students planning to transfer credits earned at Macomb (or other colleges) are recommended to see a member of Macomb's Counseling department as early as possible so ensure a seamless transition to another 4-year college or university.
