Nuclear Medicine Technology

Macomb Community College now offers a degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology!

Macomb Community College’s Nuclear Medicine Technology Program is 21 months long and students will earn an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science after obtaining 79-80 credit hours. The nuclear medicine program is designed to prepare students for board certification as registered nuclear medicine technologists (CNMT and/or RT,N).

The program has maintained a 100% first attempt pass rate on the NMTCB and ARRT exams.

While enrolled in Macomb’s Program, students will learn: nuclear physics; radiation safety; the use and calibration of specialized radiation detection instruments; care of nuclear medicine patients; handling, preparation, and administration of radiopharmaceuticals; how to perform clinical and other laboratory procedures; imaging patients and analyzing data from computers. Additionally, students will complete a 40-week internship in nuclear medicine technology at a clinical site affiliated with the college.

The graduates are prepared to work as a nuclear medicine technologist at an entry staff level in a variety of health care settings.

Nuclear medicine technologists have many employment opportunities available to them including hospitals and other healthcare facilities, sales for pharmaceutical companies, manufacturers and vendors who produce/provide nuclear medicine equipment and supplies, research, computer application specialist for nuclear medicine computer and camera manufacturers, commercial radiopharmacies, management, and as educators.
