The Website Programming course of study includes two specialties: Web Master and Web Developer. Successful graduates will learn the skills necessary to become employed as Web Master, Web Development Specialist, Intranet/Internet implementers, or E-commerce site builder.
Students completing the Web Master specialty possess the skills and knowledge to establish and maintain an interactive Web presence. They are able to design the interface between the data storage component and the site visitor, thus creating dynamic, data rich web pages. They are able to add interactivity and graphics to their web pages using tools such as JavaScript or VBScript; and carry out secure electronic commerce.
Students completing the Web Developer specialty possess the skills and knowledge to develop and implement dynamic Web sites, develop content-rich intranets and secure Web communications and web sites.
All web courses are designed to be offered online. In addition to the basic equipment and software required for traditional online classes, participants will be required to install curriculum specific software such as Personal Web Server, Visual Studio.Net, Java, and Dreamweaver.
Web students will learn to create interactive websites. These websites capture information from website visitors, programmatically use that information to present other information to the visitor, access databases of information, perform calculations and other data manipulations, and store the site visitor’s responses and requests.
This degree program prepares students for positions in service, support, and program development for the World Wide Web, corporate internet and/or intranet sites. Students who complete this degree will have sufficient training to sit for many of the following industry certifications: iNet Web Certification, CIW Associate Certificate, JavaScript, Web languages Perl, and Application Developer.
Web Specialist Option
Students completing the Web Master or Web Developer degree program may also earn a Web Specialist degree by successflully completing an additional 24 credit hours in Media and Communication Arts (MACA) Web Design courses.
