If tuition covered the actual cost of educating each student, it would be cost-prohibitive for many students to attend college.  And as state and federal funding levels decrease, innovative programs as well as student scholarships are increasingly threatened.  Gifts such as yours allow Macomb to keep its tuition affordable while preserving the quality of the education we provide.  This means that more membrs of teh community have access to lifelong learning opportunities.  The following shows how a gift of any size can really make a difference:

$10,000 or more, payable outright or over three to five years, can set up an endowment fund

$3,000 covers tuition and books for one full-time student for one year

$1,500 provides 100 hours of peer tutoring

$500 can create a restricted scholarship

$300 covers tuition and fees for one student for one 4 credit hour class

$50 can purchase a new book for the library

In addition, the State of Michigan allows a 50 percent tax credit on gifts up to $200 for individuals and $400 for couples.  If you itemize your deductions, federal tax savings may also apply.  Please consult your tax advisor for specific information.
