MACOMB GETS SECOND RECRUIT FROM ROOSEVELT

 

Macomb Community College volleyball coach Holly Ritchie has signed another player to a Letter of Intent for the Fall 2013-2014.

 

Josie DeGregorio – Roosevelt H.S.

 

DeGregorio prepped at Roosevelt High School under coach Alishia Kovalchik at libero for two years.  She received Dream Team, All-Region, and All-League honors for junior and senior seasons.  DeGregorio was a member of a 2011 district championship team.  She played for the Victors Volleyball Club for three years. DeGregorio plans on majoring in respiratory therapy.

Macomb Community College volleyball coach Holly Ritchie has signed her fifth player to a Letter of Intent for the Fall 2013-2014.

 

Sara Ormsby – Lamphere H.S.

 

Ormsby played varsity volleyball under coach Jamie Uhlmann at Lamphere High School for two years.  She received First Team All-Conference honors.  Ormsby also received Conference and Team MVP honors.  She was a member of a district championship team in 2001 and league championship teams in 2011 and 2012.  Ormsby has played for three years for Macomb Junior under coach Bri Giordano.  She is interested in pursuing a degree in Psychology.

Macomb Community College volleyball coach Holly Ritchie has signed her fourth player to a Letter of Intent for the Fall 2013-2014.

 

Ashley Klavitter – Linden H.S.

 

Klavitter played varsity volleyball under Coach Cori Mason at Linden High School for three years.  She received Flint Metro Team Academic All-State honors in 2011 and 2012.  Klavitter has played for seven years for Southern Lakes Park and Recreation under coach Nellie Guajardo.  She is interested in pursuing a degree in Kinesiology.

Macomb Community College volleyball coach Holly Ritchie has signed her third player to a Letter of Intent for the Fall 2013-2014.

 

Stephanie Lee – Roosevelt H.S.

 

Lee played varsity volleyball under Coach Alicia Kovalchik at Roosevelt High School, earning All-Region and All-Conference honors.  She was a member of a district championship team in 2011.  Lee has played for two years for the Victors Volleyball Club at University of Michigan-Dearborn.  She is undecided on a major.

 

DAKOTA'S HOFMANN IS NEWEST MONARCH

 

Macomb Community College volleyball coach Holly Ritchie has signed her second player to a Letter of Intent for the Fall 2013-2014.

 

Leah Hofmann – Dakota H.S.

 

Hofmann played varsity volleyball under Coach Tracie Ferguson at Dakota High School, earning First Team All-County and All-Conference honors.  She was a member of the 2012 Class A State Championship team.  Hofmann has played for three years for the Max Intensity Volleyball Club under Coach Melissa Criteser.  She plans on majoring in business.

STEVENSON TITAN SIGNS WITH MACOMB

 

Macomb Community College volleyball coach Holly Ritchie has signed her first player to a Letter of Intent for the Fall 2013-2014.

 

Amy Coffin – Stevenson H.S.

 

Coffin played varsity volleyball for three years under Coach Paul Drdul at Stevenson High School, earning First Team All-County, All-Conference, All-Region and Team MVP honors.  She has played for six years for the Dynasty Volleyball Club under Coach Drdul.  Coffin holds Stevenson career records for serve attempts, service points, blocks, and kills.  She also set the school record for blocks in a match with 17.

 

MONARCHS FINISH THIRD IN DISTRICT E TOURNAMENT

 

The Macomb volleyball team finished in third place in the NJCAA District E tournament in Grand Rapids this past weekend.  The Monarchs lost to Columbus State CC in their first game on Friday in straight sets, before winning all three of their games on Saturday, including victories over Oakland CC and Mott CC.  The Monarchs fell in the first game of the day on Sunday morning once again to Columbus St.  Alicia Fowler was named to the All-Tournament team.

 

The Monarchs opened the tournament dropping their first game to Columbus St. 17-25, 11-25, 12-25.  Fowler led Macomb in this game with 27 digs.  Liz McKee and Tasha Evans each had 5 kills to lead Macomb.  Krista Krautner had 16 assists in the game for the Monarchs.

 

The team had to play strong on Saturday knowing that one loss would end their season.  Macomb responded to defeat St. Clair CCC in straight sets to stay alive with scores of 25-17, 25-16, 25-15.  Evans and Amanda McAfee led the Macomb offense with six kills apiece.  Jackie Fulkerth led the Monarchs in digs with 16, two more than Fowler’s 14.

 

The task got greater for Macomb, as the team advanced to play Oakland CC.  The Monarchs got a thrilling five-set victory over a team that defeated Macomb twice during the season with scores of 22-25, 25-22, 19-25, 25-15, 19-17.  Macomb had four players record double-digit kills with Dagny Stark and Tara McFarland each getting 11.  Evans and McKee were the other two in double-digit kills with 10 each.  Fowler picked up the defense for the match picking up 32 digs with McFarland picking up a season-high 19 digs.  Krautner picked up four aces to go with 39 assists for the game.

 

The win placed Macomb against the MCCAA Eastern Conference Champion Mott CC, a team that also defeated the Monarchs twice this season.  Macomb dropped the first two sets, but rebounded to win the final three to defeat the Bears and have the opportunity to play on Sunday with scores of 17-25, 19-25, 25-18, 25-16, 23-21.  McKee led Macomb with 10 kills.  Abbey Murawski came off the bench to pick up seven kills, many in big moments to keep Macomb’s season alive.  Five Monarchs picked up double-digit digs, led by Fowler who had 27 in the game.  Krautner had another strong game picking up 35 assists, 16 digs, and two aces.

 

The Monarch's momentum ran out on Sunday morning, as the team’s season ended with a straight sets loss to Columbus St.  Macomb played better the second time around, but were not enough losing 19-25, 21-25, 14-25.  The middle's led the way for Macomb, with Evans picking up nine kills and McAfee getting eight kills.  Krautner had another game of 23 assists and 10 digs.  Fowler and McKee each led Macomb with 13 digs in the match.

 

MACOMB WINS FIVE SET THRILLER

 

The Macomb volleyball team finished the regular season in fourth place in the MCCAA Eastern Conference with a 6-6 conference record following a five set victory over St. Clair CCC.  The Monarchs won the match 25-18, 29-31, 25-16, 22-25, 17-15.

 

Macomb was led by Tasha Evans who had 15 kills and five blocks.  Freshmen Tara McFarland, Liz McKee, and Amanda McAfee each had 11 kills for the Monarchs.  McAfee also chipped in with 18 blocks, including five solo blocks.  Alicia Fowler became Macomb’s all-time leader in digs with her 50 dig performance.  Krista Krautner had a career-high 56 assists for the Monarchs.

 

The Monarchs have over a week of rest before traveling

to Grand Rapids for the NJCAA District E Tournament from November 2nd to November 4th.

 

MONARCHS SPLIT IN TOLEDO

 

The Macomb volleyball team traveled to Owens CC for two games on Saturday afternoon.  The Monarchs won the first match against Lansing CC before dropping the second match to Owens CC.  Macomb had to play without Tasha Evans for both games.

 

Macomb defeated Lansing CC in five sets in their first game of the day.  Freshman Liz McKee led Macomb with 12 kills, followed by fellow freshmen Dagny Stark and Abbey Murawski, who had 10 kills and eight kills apiece.  Krista Krautner had 37 assists to lead Macomb.  Alicia Fowler led four Monarchs with double-digit digs with 22.

 

The Monarchs could not keep the momentum from game one as the team lost in straight sets to Owens CC.  McKee and Stark led the Monarchs again with seven and six kills apiece.  Krautner had 21 assists in the second game.  Fowler was the only Monarch with double digit digs for the game with 23.

 

The Monarchs travel to Livonia for a MCCAA Eastern Conference game against Schoolcraft College before returning home for Sophomore Night against St. Clair CCC.

 

MACOMB FALTERS IN DIG PINK MATCH

 

The Monarchs volleyball team hosted Mott CC on Thursday evening at the Sports & Expo Center for the Annual Dig Pink match.  The Monarchs won the first set 25-8 before dropping the next three sets 27-29, 24-26, and 21-25.  The loss puts Macomb at 5-5 in conference and 8-14 overall.

 

Macomb was led by Tasha Evans, who had 14 kills and 16 blocks.  Dagny Stark had a season high 11 kills for Macomb.  Liz McKee had nine kills, 15 digs, and seven blocks.  Tara McFarland and Amanda McAfee each had eight kills for Macomb, while McAfee had a career-high 13 blocks.  Alicia Fowler had 27 digs, while Casey Foren had 23 for Macomb.  Krista Krautner had a career-high 49 assists for the Monarchs.

 

The Monarchs travel to Toledo, OH for a tournament at Owens CC before traveling to Livonia to take on Schoolcraft College on Oct. 16th.  The Monarchs final home game of the season is Oct. 23rd at 7 pm against St. Clair CCC.

 

MONARCHS FALL TO OCC

 

The Macomb volleyball team traveled to Waterford for a match against Oakland CC.  The Raiders defeated the Monarchs in straight sets, 25-22, 25-20, 25-16. Macomb was led by Tasha Evans, who had a team high eight kills and six blocks.

 

The straight set loss dropped the Monarchs to 5-4 in MCCAA Eastern Conference play and the team remains in fourth place in the conference.

 

Liz McKee was second on the team in kills with seven for Macomb.  Krista Krautner led the Monarchs with 23 assists.  Alicia Fowler was the only player for Macomb to record double digit digs with 23.

 

MONARCHS WIN PAIR IN ALPENA

 

The Macomb volleyball team traveled to Alpena for a pair of games against Alpena CC.  The Monarchs won the first game 24-26, 25-19, 25-15, 25-20 and the second game, 25-15, 25-13, 25-19.  The wins give Macomb a four game win streak on the season.

 

The team rebounded after dropping the first set, to win the next three.  Tasha Evans led Macomb with 12 kills, five solo blocks and nine blocking assists in the first game.  Amanda McAfee recorded 10 kills in the game.  Krista Krautner picked up 38 assists for the Monarchs.  Alicia Fowler had 24 digs to lead Macomb.

 

The team won the second game in straight sets.  Evans led the Monarchs in game two as well with 10 kills, six solo blocks and one blocking assist.  Liz McKee had eight kills and eight digs for Macomb.  Krautner added to her busy day with 27 more assists in game two.  Fowler aslo continued her stong play with 38 digs.

 

The team travels to Oakland CC on Tuesday Oct. 9th at 7 pm, before returning home to play Mott CC on Thursday Oct. 11th at 7 pm for Macomb’s annual Dig Pink Match.

 

MACOMB DEFEATS HENRY FORD IN THREE

 

The Monarch volleyball team defeated Henry Ford CC in straight sets 25-16, 25-19, 25-16 on Thursday evening at the Sports & Expo Center.  Macomb was led by Tasha Evans who had 10 kills, one solo block and five block assists.

 

Liz McKee had another strong outing for Macomb finishing with a team high 11 kills.  Krista Krautner had another strong performance with 19 assists.  Four Monarchs finished with double digit digs, led by Alicia Fowler who finished with 14.  The others were Jackie Fulkerth and Casey Foren, 11 each and Krautner who had 10 digs. 

 

The Monarchs travel to Alpena CC for two games on Friday October 5th and return home on Thursday October 11th at 7 pm against Mott CC in the annual Dig Pink match.

 

MONARCHS FALL IN FIVE

 

The Macomb volleyball team dropped a five set thriller against Schoolcraft College on Tuesday evening at the Sports & Expo Center.  The Monarchs lost with scores of 25-21, 21-25, 25-17, 21-25, 12-15.  Macomb was led by Tasha Evans, who had a career-high 15 kills, 15 blocking assists, and five aces in the match.

 

The match was a battle for every point, as the teams traded sets until the fifth.  Amanda McAfee and Liz McKee had eight kills for Macomb, while Dagny Stark and Tara Mcfarland each had six.  Krista Krautner had a nice all-around game with 23 assists, 18 digs, three aces and three blocking assists.  Alicia Fowler had another strong game as libero with 39 digs.  Jackie Fulkerth and Casey Foren had 12 and 16 digs respectively.

 

The Monarchs travel to St. Clair CCC on Thursday, September 27th at 7 pm in Port Huron.  The team returns home to host Henry Ford on October 4th at 7 pm at the Sports & Expo Center.

 

MONARCHS FINISH WEEKEND 2-2

 

The Macomb volleyball team traveled to Parkland, Ill for a tournament at Parkland CC.  The Monarchs defeated Lakeland CC and McHenry College while falling to Parkland CC and Southwestern Illinois.

 

The Monarchs started the weekend on a positive note defeating Lakeland CC in five sets, 19-25, 21-25, 25-20, 25-18, 15-9.  Macomb was led by Liz McKee who had 10 kills for the match.  Tara McFarland and Tasha Evans each had nine kills.  Krista Krautner had a career-high 31 kills and Alicia Fowler had a career -high 31 digs.

 

Tired legs hurt Macomb in the night cap, dropping the match to Southwestern Illinois in straight sets.  McKee led Macomb in kills again with seven.  Krautner had another strong match, with 22 assists. Fowler had 24 digs, while Casey Foren picked up 13.

 

The team started Sunday by dropping a straight sets match to Parkland College with scores of 25-19, 25-14, 25-14.  McFarland and Evans each tied for the team lead with five kills.  Krautner had 16 assists to again lead Macomb.  Fowler had 16 digs.

 

The Monarchs ended the weekend on a high note defeating McHenry College in straight sets, 25-23, 25-12, 25-19.  All 12 Monarchs played in this game, and the team was led by Dagny Stark, who had a career-high 11 kills.  Krautner had 29 assists.  McKee had nine kills and Evans had seven for Macomb.

 

The team hosts Schoolcraft College on Tuesday, September 24th at 7 pm at the Sports & Expo Center.

 

MONARCHS DROP HOME OPENER

 

The Macomb volleyball team dropped their home opener in straight sets against Oakland CC to fall to 1-1 in MCCAA Eastern Conference play and 2-8 overall.  Freshman Liz McKee led Macomb with seven kills in 19 attempts.

 

Macomb dropped the opening set 25-17, lost the second set 27-25, and dropped the final set 25-8.  Krista Krautner led Macomb with 19 assists and seven digs.  Alicia Fowler led the Monarchs with 15 digs, followed by Casey Foren, who had 12 digs.  Amanda McAfee had five kills for Macomb.

 

The Monarchs travel to Mott CC for their next game on Thursday, September 20th at 7 pm, followed by a trip to Kishwaukee, Ill for a tournament at Kishwaukee CC.  The team returns home on Tuesday, September 25th at 7 pm for a game against Schoolcraft College.

 

MONARCHS START CONFERENCE PLAY WITH WIN

 

The Macomb volleyball team traveled to Dearborn to open the MCCAA Eastern Conference season for a match against Henry Ford CC.  Macomb defeated the Hawks in straight sets, with scores of 25-10, 25-11, and 25-17.  Macomb was led by Liz McKee, Casey Foren, and Tasha Evans, who each had five kills for Macomb.

 

The Monarchs had four players with double-digit digs, led by Alicia Fowler, who had 20.  The other were Krista Krautner (13), Foren (10), and Tara McFarland (10).  Krautner, like she has for each game, led Macomb in assists with 16. 

 

After nine matches, some Monarchs are among the best in the nation in individual stats.   Evans is ninth in the nation in total blocks and fifth in the nation in blocks per set.  Fowler is 16th in the nation in digs and second in the country in digs per set.  

 

Macomb’s home opener is on Tuesday, September 18th at 7 pm at the Sports & Expo Center against Oakland CC.

 

MONARCHS STRUGGLE IN OWENS CC TOURNAMENT

 

The Monarch volleyball team dropped to 1-7 on the season after dropping four matches at Owens CC tournament over the weekend.  On Friday, the team lost to Monroe College and Illinois Central CC in four sets each.  On Saturday, Macomb lost to Moraine Valley CC and Vincennes College in straight sets each.

 

Macomb was led by Tasha Evans, who had 30 kills over the four games, including 13 against Monroe College.  Krista Krautner had 87 assists on the weekend to lead the team.  Dagny Stark had 23 kills on the weekend.  Casey Foren had 17 kills in the tournament.  Alicia Fowler had 92 digs on the weekend to lead Macomb.

 

VOLLEYBALL OPENS SEASON IN LANSING

 

The Macomb volleyball team traveled to Lansing CC for four matches against Region XII opponents to open the season.  The Monarchs dropped both matches on Friday, losing in four sets to Kalamazoo Valley CC and in straight sets to Grand Rapids CC.  The team rebounded to split their games on Saturday, defeating Lansing CC in four sets and falling to Muskegon CC in four sets.

 

The Monarchs were led by Tasha Evans, who had 29 kills for the weekend.  Krista Krautner had 73 assists on the weekend.  Liz McKee had 21 kills for the weekend, leading all Monarch freshmen.  Sophomore libero, Alicia Fowler had 98 digs on the weekend, averaging almost 25 digs per match.

 

SIX MONARCHS RETURN FOR VOLLEYBALL

 

Macomb head coach Holly Plieth has signed six returning players for the upcoming 2012-2013 season.

 

The Monarchs return three members of the MCCAA Eastern Conference All-Freshman team, including All-Region, All-State, First Team All-Conference, and Freshman of the Year, Nora Fa’atiga.  Fa’atiga finished in the top 25 in the country in kills per set at 3.411. Along with Fa’atiga is Tasha Evans, who was also honorable mention All-Conference and Alicia Fowler who was named Third Team All-Conference.  Fowler led the Monarchs in digs with 519, averaging 3.932 digs per set as a freshman.

 

The other Monarchs returning are Casey Foren, who played in 95 sets as a freshman outside hitter.  Jacqueline Fulkerth, who was third on Macomb in digs per set last year with 1.582, is also returning for her sophomore season.  The last returning player is Krista Krautner, who was second on Macomb in assists last season, and will work on taking over the setting duties as a sophomore.

 

The Monarchs return their team leaders in aces, digs, and kills from last season.

 

MACOMB TRAVELS TO WESTSIDE FOR NEXT RECRUIT

Elizabeth McKee – Leland H.S.

 

McKee has played varsity volleyball for three years under Coach Laurie Glass at Leland High School, earning First Team All-State and Leelanau County Dream Team honors as a senior.  She also received All-Region and First Team All-Conference honors as a junior and a senior.  McKee has played for one year for the Leelaneau Area Volleyball Club under coach Travis Baker.  She will also play on the women’s basketball team while at Macomb.

 

MURAWSKI A MONARCH

 

Macomb Community College volleyball coach Holly Plieth has signed another player to a Letter of Intent for the Fall 2012-2013.

 

Abbey Murawski – Chippewa Valley H.S.

 

Murawski has played varsity volleyball for two years under Coach Bill Rice at Chippewa Valley High School, earning All-County honors.  She has played for six years for the Crush, Dynasty, and Max Intensity volleyball club under coach Melissa Criteser.  Murawski received All-Academic honors in 2010 and 2011.  She plans on majoring in health science.

Amanda McAfee – Chippewa Valley H.S.

 

McAfee has played varsity volleyball for three years under Coach Bill Rice at Chippewa Valley High School, earning All-County honors.  She has played for three years for the Dynasty Volleyball Club under Coach Sarah Titran.  McAfee has received All-Academic honors last year.  She plans on majoring in nursing.

 

STARK SIGNS WITH MACOMB

 

Macomb Community College volleyball coach Holly Plieth has signed her third player to a Letter of Intent for the Fall 2012-2013.

 

Dagny Stark – Milford H.S.

 

Dagny has played varsity volleyball for two years under Coach Jeffrey Stark at Milford High School, earning All-KLAA and All-Region honors.  Stark has played for five years for the Madonna Crusaders under coaches Stephanie Parslow and Desiree Betts.  She has received KLAA and MIVCA All-Academic honors each of the last two years.  Stark has over a 3.4 GPA and is undecided on a major.

 

MONARCHS INK TWO

 

Macomb Head Volleyball Coach Holly Plieth has not wasted any time on the recruiting trail, signing two players to Letters of Intent for the 2012-2013 school year.

 

Alli Costine – Clawson H.S.
Tara McFarland – Gabriel Richard H.S.

 

Costine has been on the varsity team for three years at Clawson H.S.  “First of all, I liked her athletic ability. She has a very fundamental skill set on the court.  She is also a tremendous leader on the floor.” Coach Plieth

McFarland has also been a varsity player for three years at Gabriel Richard H.S.  In 2011, she received All-Catholic, All-League, and All-Region honors.  McFarland plans to study Psychology at Macomb.

 

VOLLEYBALL SEASON ENDS AT DISTRICTS

 

The Macomb volleyball team traveled to Grand Rapids for the District E Tournament this past weekend.  After finishing third in the MCCAA Eastern Conference, The Monarchs were the fifth seed in the tournament.  The Monarchs won 2 games in the double elimination tournament, finishing fourth overall.

 

The Monarchs lost the first game of the tournament against Columbus St. in five sets, putting the team in the loser’s bracket of the tournament.  From there, Macomb defeated Henry Ford for the third time this season in four sets.  The Monarchs then upset St. Clair CCC in four sets, their first victory over the Skippers this season.  In both teams third game of the day, Macomb was eliminated by Schoolcraft in four sets to end their season.  Freshman Nora Fa’atiga was named to the All-Tournament team.

 

MACOMB ENDS REGULAR SEASON WITH VICTORY OVER DELTA

 

The Macomb volleyball team finished the regular season with a straight set victory (25-7, 25-17, 25-14) at Delta on Tuesday evening.  The Monarchs were led by Nora Fa’atiga, who recorded 15 kills and three aces.

 

The victory puts the Monarchs (19-14, 9-5) in third place in the MCCAA Eastern Conference.  Macomb has qualified for both the MCCAA Tournament (Oct. 28-29) in Kalamazoo and the District E tournament (Nov. 4-6) in Grand Rapids.  Allegra Recknagel, who is currently 10th in the nation in assists per set, finished the match with 20 assists.  Lauren Holtcamp and Elyse Stegner each recorded nine kills for Macomb.

 

Macomb’s next match is on Friday, October 28 against Muskegon CC at 4 pm at Kalamazoo Valley CC in the quarterfinals of the MCCAA Tournament.

 

MONARCHS SPLIT IN OHIO

 

The Macomb volleyball team traveled to Toledo, OH on Saturday for a tournament at Owens CC.  The Monarchs lost the first match in straight sets to #6 Owens 21-25, 20-25, 24-26 before defeating Jackson CC in straight sets 25-15, 25-16, 25-23.  Elyse Stegner led Macomb with 22 kills on the weekend.

 

The loss puts Macomb at 0-2 against Owens CC on the year, a team they may see again in the District E tournament.  Stegner led Macomb with 14 kills for the match.  Allegra Recknagel recorded 34 assists during the match. 

 

The Monarchs rebounded to defeat Jackson CC in the second match of the day.  Nora Faatiga led the Monarchs with nine kills.  Jackie Fulkerth had a strong match, recording a season-high 11 digs, tying Alicia Fowler.  Tasha Evans chipped in with five blocks.

 

Macomb ends the regular season on Tuesday, Oct. 25 against Delta CC in University Center.

 

MONARCHS VICTORIOUS OVER MOTT

 

The Macomb volleyball team traveled to Flint on Tuesday night to take on Mott.  The Monarchs defeated Mott in straight sets by scores of 25-22, 25-19, 25-23.  Macomb was led by Nora Fa’atiga who recorded 14 kills and seven blocks.

 

The win put the Monarchs one game closer to clinching a berth in the MCCAA Tournament on Oct. 28-29 in Kalamazoo.  Macomb (17-12, 8-4) is currently tied for third in the MCCAA Eastern Conference with Schoolcraft.  Lauren Holtcamp finished the match with six kills and four blocks.  Allegra Recknagel led the Monarchs with 35 assists.

 

Macomb’s next game is on Oct. 20 at 7 pm against Schoolcraft in Livonia.

 

MONARCHS SPLIT IN CONFERENCE MATCHES

 

The Macomb volleyball team traveled to Dearborn to take on Henry Ford CC on Tuesday.  The Monarchs were victorious in straight sets, 25-19, 25-12, 25-21.  The next night, #2 Oakland CC traveled to Macomb to take on the Monarchs on Sophomore Night.  The Raiders were victorious in four sets, 25-18, 17-25, 14-25, 17-25.

 

In both matches, Macomb was led by Nora Fa’atiga, who had 18 kills, seven assists, and 2 blocks combined.  Allegra Recknagel recorded 47 assists over the two matches, and is now seventh in the country in assists per set.  Alicia Fowler recorded 27 digs for the two matches.  Tasha Evans recorded 12 kills over the two matches.

 

Macomb’s next match is at 7 pm in Flint against Mott CC, in a match that could determine the final spot in the MCCAA Tournament.

 

MONARCHS SWEEP ALPENA

 

The Macomb volleyball team won both matches in straight sets  against Alpena on Friday evening at the Sports & Expo Center.  This was the annual Dig Pink match, where all proceeds are donated to the American Cancer Society.  Macomb was led by Elyse Stegner, who recorded 17 kills and 12 aces.

 

The Monarchs won the first match 25-16, 25-8, and 25-17 and the second match 25-8, 25-11, and 25-15.  Nora Fa’atiga had another strong performance, leading Macomb with 19 kills.  Tasha Evans recorded eight kills and seven blocks for the Monarchs.  Allegra Recknagel recorded 34 assists, while Krista Krautner had 23 assists.

 

Macomb’s next game is on Tues. Oct 11 at 7 pm at Henry Ford CC in Dearborn.  The next home game is on Wed. Oct. 12 at 7 pm against Oakland CC.

 

MONARCHS STRUGGLE AGAINST SKIPPERS

 

The Macomb volleyball team traveled to Port Huron on Tues. night for a league match against St. Clair CCC.  The Monarchs lost the match in four sets, 22-25, 19-25, 25-23, 20-25.  Macomb was led by Nora Fa’atiga who recorded 21 kills and three aces.

 

The loss puts the Monarchs at 13-10 (4-3) and in fourth place in the MCCAA Eastern Conference.  Allegra Recknagel led Macomb with 45 assists.  Casey Foren recorded 10 kills for the Monarchs.  Jessica Nichols led the Skippers with 20 digs and 14 kills.

 

Macomb next plays on Friday, Oct. 7 at 4 pm & 6 pm against Alpena CC in the annual Dig Pink Match.  All proceeds from the event go to the American Cancer Society.

 

MACOMB WINS IN STRAIGHT SETS

 

The Macomb volleyball team defeated Delta in straight sets, with scores of 25-10, 25-15, and 25-12, on Thurs. night.  The Monarchs were led again by Nora Fa’atiga who had team highs in kills with 10 and aces with six.

 

The Monarchs have now won six of their last seven matches and three straight matches in conference.  Allegra Recknagel led Macomb with 21 assists and is now sixth in the nation in assists per set, averaging 9.76.  Tasha Evans was second on the team with five kills and Elyse Stegner chipped in with three kills and four assists.

 

Macomb’s next game is on Tues. Oct. 4 against St. Clair CCC in Port Huron.  The next home game is our annual Dig Pink match against Alpena CC at 4 pm & 6 pm on Fri. Oct. 7.

 

MONARCHS DOWN OCELOTS

 

The Macomb volleyball team defeated Schoolcraft in four sets on Tues. night at the Sports & Expo Center.  They won with scores of 25-23, 18-25, 25-20, 25-16.  The Monarchs were led by Nora Fa’atiga, who had 13 kills and eight blocks on the match.

 

The victory improves Macomb’s record to 12-10 overall and a 3-2 record in conference.  After splitting the first two games, the Monarchs scored the final 10 points in the third game, for the 25-20 victory.  In the fourth game, Macomb scored nine straight rally points to cruise to the 25-16 victory, and win the match.  Allegra Recknagel recorded 33 assists in the match.  Albana Ulic chipped in with eight kills and eight blocks for the Monarchs.

 

Macomb returns home on Thurs. Sept. 29 at 7 pm against Delta CC at the Sports & Expo Center.

 

MONARCHS WIN THREE OF FOUR IN ILLINOIS

 

The Macomb volleyball team traveled to Illinois this weekend for a tournament at Parkland College.  The team finished 3-1 on the weekend, with victories over Lake Land College in straight sets and McHenry County and Rend Lake Colleges in four sets.  The only defeat came at the hands of, the host school, #12 Parkland College.  The Monarchs were led by Nora Fa’atiga, who recorded 64 kills on the weekend.

 

The Monarchs have now won four of their last five matches and remain in fourth place in the MCCAA Eastern Conference.  Allegra Recknagel recorded 134 assists on the weekend, to move up to ninth in the nation in assists per set.  Alicia Fowler had 49 digs during the four matches.  Casey Foren recorded 21 kills.

 

Macomb has 2 home matches this week, first on Tues. Sept. 27 at 7 pm against Schoolcraft and Thurs. Sept. 29 at 7 pm against Delta.

 

VOLLEYBALL STRUGGLES AGAINST RIVAL

 

The Macomb volleyball team lost to #2 Oakland CC on Tues. night in Waterford.  The Monarchs fell in straight sets, by scores of: 12-25, 17-25, and 15-25.  Macomb was led by Nora Fa’atiga who recorded six kills.

 

The loss drops Macomb to 7-9 on the year and 1-2 on the conference.  Allegra Recknagel led the Monarchs with 15 assists and Alicia Fowler recorded eight digs.  Macomb will look to rebound from the defeat when they play Mott CC on Thurs. Sept.22 at 7 pm at the Sports & Expo Center.

 

VOLLEYBALL PLAYS THE BEST IN ILLINOIS

 

The Macomb volleyball team traveled to Marengo, IL for a two-day tournament at Kishwaukee College.  The Monarchs went 1-3 on the weekend, defeating Kansas City Kansas CC in five sets and losing to #14 Kishwaukee College, #1 Cowley CCC, and #6 Johnson CCC.  Elyse Stegner led Macomb with 28 kills on the weekend.

 

The Monarchs played well against some of the better teams in the country.  Macomb lost in straight sets to Kishwaukee and Cowley and in four-sets to Johnson.  Sophomores Lauren Holtcamp and Natalie Nufer each recorded 25 kills on the weekend.  Allegra Recknagel, who is eighth in the country in assists per set, recorded 102 assists on the weekend.  Alicia Fowler, who is in the top 25 in digs per set, had 64 digs.

 

The Monarchs next game is in Waterford against #3 Oakland CC, on Tues. Sept. 20 at 7 pm.  The next home match is on Thurs. Sept. 22nd against Mott CC at 7 pm at the Sports & Expo Center.

 

MACOMB BEATS HENRY FORD

 

The Macomb volleyball team defeated Henry Ford in straight sets on Thursday night at the Sports & Expo Center with scores of 25-16, 25-23, 25-13.  The Monarchs were led by Nora Fa’atiga and Albana Ulic who each recorded 10 kills.  Sophomore Allegra Recknagel, who is second in the country in assists per set, led Macomb with 28 assists.

 

The Monarchs, who are now 1-1 in conference play, played well to win in straight sets.  The victory puts Macomb at 6-5 on the year.  Lauren Holtcamp recorded four blocks for the Monarchs. 

 

Macomb travels to Marengo, Ill this weekend for a tournament at Kishwaukee CC before playing Oakland CC on Sept. 20 in Waterford.  The Monarchs next home game comes on Thursday, Sept. 22 against Mott CC at 7 pm.

 

MONARCHS FALL IN FIVE SETS

 

The Macomb College volleyball team fell in five sets to a visiting St. Clair Skippers by scores of 26-28, 25-20, 21-25, 27-25, 9-15.  The loss drops the Monarchs to 0-1 in the MCCAA Eastern Conference and 5-5 overall.  The Monarchs were led by a pair of freshmen, Nora Fa’atiga led the team with 15 kills, while Casey Foren recorded 13 kills.

 

The Monarchs got off to a slow start, dropping the first game 26-28, before coming back and winning the second 25-20.  The third game was won by the Skippers 21-25, but Macomb rebounded with a 27-25 victory in the fourth.  St. Clair won the fifth and final game of the match 9-15.  Alicia Fowler led Macomb in digs with a career high 28 and Allegra Recknagel led the Monarchs with 42 assists.  St. Clair was led by Amanda Curley who recorded 32 kills and 22 digs.

 

Macomb has a week off to prepare for Henry Ford CC, who they play at 7 pm, next Thurs. Sept. 15 at the Sports & Expo Center.

 

VOLLEYBALL FINISHES 2-3 IN OHIO

 

The Macomb College Volleyball team traveled to Perrysberg, Ohio for a two-day tournament.  The Monarchs went 1-1 on Friday, defeating Edison CC in three sets before falling to Lansing CC in four sets.  On Saturday, the Monarchs went 1-2, defeating Cuyahoga CC in straight sets and losing to Columbus St. in four sets and Vincennes in five sets.  The Monarchs were led by Natalie Nufer who recorded 42 kills over the five matches.  Lauren Holtcamp added 40 kills.

 

Macomb started the tournament with a straight set victory over Edison CC.  Tasha Evans recorded seven kills on the match, while Allegra Recknagel led the team with 27 assists.  After a long wait, Macomb faltered in the second match of the day, falling to Lansing CC in four sets.  Nufer recorded fifteen kills in the match.

 

The Monarchs started the second day with consecutive losses to Vincennes Univ. and Columbus St.  Casey Foren and Nora Faatiga recorded 11 kills against Vincennes each, while Nufer had eight kills against Columbus St.  The team rebounded in the final match to defeat Cuyahoga CC.  Foren led the Monarchs with nine kills.

 

Macomb opens up the MCCAA Eastern Conference season on this Thursday, Sept. 8 at 7 pm against St. Clair CCC at the Sports & Expo Center.

 

MONARCHS OPEN SEASON IN COLUMBUS

 

This weekend the Macomb volleyball team traveled to Columbus for a two day tournament.  The Monarchs finished 3-1, defeating Lakeland, Genesee, and Edison, while falling to #9 Owens.  Co-Captain Lauren Holtcamp recorded 10 kills on the weekend, tying for the team lead with freshman Casey Foren.  Fellow Co-Captain Allegra Recknagel led Macomb in aces (7) and assists (51).

 

Macomb started the tournament strong on Friday, by defeating Lakeland CC and Genesee CC without dropping a set.  The second day of the weekend was more of a struggle for the Monarchs who defeated Edison CC in four sets, and losing to #9 Owens CC in straight sets.  The Monarchs have one tournament remaining before the start of league play on Sept. 8 against St. Clair CCC.

 

The Monarchs return to action next weekend (Sept. 2 & 3), traveling to Perrysburg, OH for a two-day tournament at Owens CC.

 

TWO SPORT STAR HEADED TO MACOMB

 

Macomb Community College Softball Coach Joe Cavataio has signed another to a Letter of Intent for the Fall 2011-2012.

 

Victoria Cannon – East Detroit H.S.

 

Cannon plans on playing softball and volleyball during her time at Macomb. Cannon played softball under Coach Tim Woelkers and volleyball under Coach Kevin Nugent.  In volleyball she has received All-Conference, All-County, and Team MVP honors, while in softball she led the team with a .475 on-base percentage.  She is currently undecided on a major.

 

EIGHT MONARCHS RETURN FOR 2011

 

Macomb Community College Head Volleyball Coach Holly Plieth has brought back eight players from last seasons team that finished second in the MCCAA Eastern Conference.

 

Included in those returning is Lauren Holtcamp, who was a MCCAA All-Eastern Conference Second Team and All-Freshman member.  The Monarchs also bring back MCCAA All-Eastern Conference Third Team member Allegra Recknagel and Honorable Mention All-Eastern Conference Albana Ulic.  The Monarchs also bring back Rachel Bujak, who was fourth on the team in kills, Christina DeMaster, who led the team in digs, Marissa Manzella, who was second on the team in digs, Natalie Nufer, who was third on the team in aces per set, and Elyse Stegner, who was third on the team in assists per set.

 

With these returning players and a strong start in recruiting, the Monarchs are looking forward to another strong season in 2011.

 

MACOMB SIGNS TWO FOR 2011

 

Head Volleyball Coach Holly Plieth has signed two players to Letters of Intent for Fall 2011-2012.

  • Tasha Evans – Almont High School
  • Antoinette (Nora) Fa’atiga – Richmond High School

Tasha has played varsity volleyball for four years under Coach Sue Frederiksen at Almont High School earning Team MVP and All-Conference First Team honors.  She has a 3.4 GPA and has been all-academic for three years.

 

Nora has played varsity volleyball and basketball at Richmond High School earning First Team All-State and First Team All- County honors.  She was born in Pago Pago, American Samoa and plans on studying physical therapy.
