STARK SIGNS WITH MACOMB
Macomb Community College volleyball coach Holly Plieth has signed her third player to a Letter of Intent for the Fall 2012-2013.

Dagny has played varsity volleyball for two years under Coach Jeffrey Stark at Milford High School, earning All-
KLAA and All-Region honors. Stark has played for five years for the Madonna Crusaders under coaches Stephanie Parslow and Desiree Betts. She has received KLAA and MIVCA All-Academic honors each of the last two years. Stark has over a 3.4 GPA and is undecided on a major.

Macomb Head Volleyball Coach Holly Plieth has not wasted any time on the recruiting trail, signing two players to Letters of Intent for the 2012-2013 school year.

Costine has been on the varsity team for three years at Clawson H.S. “First of all, I liked her athletic ability. She has a very fundamental skill set on the court. She is also a tremendous leader on the floor.” Coach Plieth

McFarland has also been a varsity player for three years at Gabriel Richard H.S. In 2011, she received All-Catholic, All-League, and All-Region honors. McFarland plans to study Psychology at Macomb.
VOLLEYBALL SEASON ENDS AT DISTRICTS
The Macomb volleyball team traveled to Grand Rapids for the District E Tournament this past weekend. After finishing third in the MCCAA Eastern Conference, The Monarchs were the fifth seed in the tournament. The Monarchs won 2 games in the double elimination tournament, finishing fourth overall.
The Monarchs lost the first game of the tournament against Columbus St. in five sets, putting the team in the loser’s bracket of the tournament. From there, Macomb defeated Henry Ford for the third time this season in four sets. The Monarchs then upset St. Clair CCC in four sets, their first victory over the Skippers this season. In both teams third game of the day, Macomb was eliminated by Schoolcraft in four sets to end their season. Freshman Nora Fa’atiga was named to the All-Tournament team.
MACOMB ENDS REGULAR SEASON WITH VICTORY OVER DELTA
The Macomb volleyball team finished the regular season with a straight set victory (25-7, 25-17, 25-14) at Delta on Tuesday evening. The Monarchs were led by Nora Fa’atiga, who recorded 15 kills and three aces.
The victory puts the Monarchs (19-14, 9-5) in third place in the MCCAA Eastern Conference. Macomb has qualified for both the MCCAA Tournament (Oct. 28-29) in Kalamazoo and the District E tournament (Nov. 4-6) in Grand Rapids. Allegra Recknagel, who is currently 10th in the nation in assists per set, finished the match with 20 assists. Lauren Holtcamp and Elyse Stegner each recorded nine kills for Macomb.
Macomb’s next match is on Friday, October 28 against Muskegon CC at 4 pm at Kalamazoo Valley CC in the quarterfinals of the MCCAA Tournament.
MONARCHS SPLIT IN OHIO
The Macomb volleyball team traveled to Toledo, OH on Saturday for a tournament at Owens CC. The Monarchs lost the first match in straight sets to #6 Owens 21-25, 20-25, 24-26 before defeating Jackson CC in straight sets 25-15, 25-16, 25-23. Elyse Stegner led Macomb with 22 kills on the weekend.
The loss puts Macomb at 0-2 against Owens CC on the year, a team they may see again in the District E tournament. Stegner led Macomb with 14 kills for the match. Allegra Recknagel recorded 34 assists during the match.
The Monarchs rebounded to defeat Jackson CC in the second match of the day. Nora Faatiga led the Monarchs with nine kills. Jackie Fulkerth had a strong match, recording a season-high 11 digs, tying Alicia Fowler. Tasha Evans chipped in with five blocks.
Macomb ends the regular season on Tuesday, Oct. 25 against Delta CC in University Center.
MONARCHS VICTORIOUS OVER MOTT
The Macomb volleyball team traveled to Flint on Tuesday night to take on Mott. The Monarchs defeated Mott in straight sets by scores of 25-22, 25-19, 25-23. Macomb was led by Nora Fa’atiga who recorded 14 kills and seven blocks.
The win put the Monarchs one game closer to clinching a berth in the MCCAA Tournament on Oct. 28-29 in Kalamazoo. Macomb (17-12, 8-4) is currently tied for third in the MCCAA Eastern Conference with Schoolcraft. Lauren Holtcamp finished the match with six kills and four blocks. Allegra Recknagel led the Monarchs with 35 assists.
Macomb’s next game is on Oct. 20 at 7 pm against Schoolcraft in Livonia.
MONARCHS SPLIT IN CONFERENCE MATCHES
The Macomb volleyball team traveled to Dearborn to take on Henry Ford CC on Tuesday. The Monarchs were victorious in straight sets, 25-19, 25-12, 25-21. The next night, #2 Oakland CC traveled to Macomb to take on the Monarchs on Sophomore Night. The Raiders were victorious in four sets, 25-18, 17-25, 14-25, 17-25.
In both matches, Macomb was led by Nora Fa’atiga, who had 18 kills, seven assists, and 2 blocks combined. Allegra Recknagel recorded 47 assists over the two matches, and is now seventh in the country in assists per set. Alicia Fowler recorded 27 digs for the two matches. Tasha Evans recorded 12 kills over the two matches.
Macomb’s next match is at 7 pm in Flint against Mott CC, in a match that could determine the final spot in the MCCAA Tournament.
MONARCHS SWEEP ALPENA
The Macomb volleyball team won both matches in straight sets against Alpena on Friday evening at the Sports & Expo Center. This was the annual Dig Pink match, where all proceeds are donated to the American Cancer Society. Macomb was led by Elyse Stegner, who recorded 17 kills and 12 aces.
The Monarchs won the first match 25-16, 25-8, and 25-17 and the second match 25-8, 25-11, and 25-15. Nora Fa’atiga had another strong performance, leading Macomb with 19 kills. Tasha Evans recorded eight kills and seven blocks for the Monarchs. Allegra Recknagel recorded 34 assists, while Krista Krautner had 23 assists.
Macomb’s next game is on Tues. Oct 11 at 7 pm at Henry Ford CC in Dearborn. The next home game is on Wed. Oct. 12 at 7 pm against Oakland CC.
MONARCHS STRUGGLE AGAINST SKIPPERS
The Macomb volleyball team traveled to Port Huron on Tues. night for a league match against St. Clair CCC. The Monarchs lost the match in four sets, 22-25, 19-25, 25-23, 20-25. Macomb was led by Nora Fa’atiga who recorded 21 kills and three aces.
The loss puts the Monarchs at 13-10 (4-3) and in fourth place in the MCCAA Eastern Conference. Allegra Recknagel led Macomb with 45 assists. Casey Foren recorded 10 kills for the Monarchs. Jessica Nichols led the Skippers with 20 digs and 14 kills.
Macomb next plays on Friday, Oct. 7 at 4 pm & 6 pm against Alpena CC in the annual Dig Pink Match. All proceeds from the event go to the American Cancer Society.

The Macomb volleyball team defeated Delta in straight sets, with scores of 25-10, 25-15, and 25-12, on Thurs. night. The Monarchs were led again by Nora Fa’atiga who had team highs in kills with 10 and aces with six.
The Monarchs have now won six of their last seven matches and three straight matches in conference. Allegra Recknagel led Macomb with 21 assists and is now sixth in the nation in assists per set, averaging 9.76. Tasha Evans was second on the team with five kills and Elyse Stegner chipped in with three kills and four assists.
Macomb’s next game is on Tues. Oct. 4 against St. Clair CCC in Port Huron. The next home game is our annual Dig Pink match against Alpena CC at 4 pm & 6 pm on Fri. Oct. 7.
MONARCHS DOWN OCELOTS
The Macomb volleyball team defeated Schoolcraft in four sets on Tues. night at the Sports & Expo Center. They won with scores of 25-23, 18-25, 25-20, 25-16. The Monarchs were led by Nora Fa’atiga, who had 13 kills and eight blocks on the match.
The victory improves Macomb’s record to 12-10 overall and a 3-2 record in conference. After splitting the first two games, the Monarchs scored the final 10 points in the third game, for the 25-20 victory. In the fourth game, Macomb scored nine straight rally points to cruise to the 25-16 victory, and win the match. Allegra Recknagel recorded 33 assists in the match. Albana Ulic chipped in with eight kills and eight blocks for the Monarchs.
Macomb returns home on Thurs. Sept. 29 at 7 pm against Delta CC at the Sports & Expo Center.
MONARCHS WIN THREE OF FOUR IN ILLINOIS
The Macomb volleyball team traveled to Illinois this weekend for a tournament at Parkland College. The team finished 3-1 on the weekend, with victories over Lake Land College in straight sets and McHenry County and Rend Lake Colleges in four sets. The only defeat came at the hands of, the host school, #12 Parkland College. The Monarchs were led by Nora Fa’atiga, who recorded 64 kills on the weekend.
The Monarchs have now won four of their last five matches and remain in fourth place in the MCCAA Eastern Conference. Allegra Recknagel recorded 134 assists on the weekend, to move up to ninth in the nation in assists per set. Alicia Fowler had 49 digs during the four matches. Casey Foren recorded 21 kills.
Macomb has 2 home matches this week, first on Tues. Sept. 27 at 7 pm against Schoolcraft and Thurs. Sept. 29 at 7 pm against Delta.
VOLLEYBALL STRUGGLES AGAINST RIVAL
The Macomb volleyball team lost to #2 Oakland CC on Tues. night in Waterford. The Monarchs fell in straight sets, by scores of: 12-25, 17-25, and 15-25. Macomb was led by Nora Fa’atiga who recorded six kills.
The loss drops Macomb to 7-9 on the year and 1-2 on the conference. Allegra Recknagel led the Monarchs with 15 assists and Alicia Fowler recorded eight digs. Macomb will look to rebound from the defeat when they play Mott CC on Thurs. Sept.22 at 7 pm at the Sports & Expo Center.
VOLLEYBALL PLAYS THE BEST IN ILLINOIS
The Macomb volleyball team traveled to Marengo, IL for a two-day tournament at Kishwaukee College. The Monarchs went 1-3 on the weekend, defeating Kansas City Kansas CC in five sets and losing to #14 Kishwaukee College, #1 Cowley CCC, and #6 Johnson CCC. Elyse Stegner led Macomb with 28 kills on the weekend.
The Monarchs played well against some of the better teams in the country. Macomb lost in straight sets to Kishwaukee and Cowley and in four-sets to Johnson. Sophomores Lauren Holtcamp and Natalie Nufer each recorded 25 kills on the weekend. Allegra Recknagel, who is eighth in the country in assists per set, recorded 102 assists on the weekend. Alicia Fowler, who is in the top 25 in digs per set, had 64 digs.
The Monarchs next game is in Waterford against #3 Oakland CC, on Tues. Sept. 20 at 7 pm. The next home match is on Thurs. Sept. 22nd against Mott CC at 7 pm at the Sports & Expo Center.
MACOMB BEATS HENRY FORD
The Macomb volleyball team defeated Henry Ford in straight sets on Thursday night at the Sports & Expo Center with scores of 25-16, 25-23, 25-13. The Monarchs were led by Nora Fa’atiga and Albana Ulic who each recorded 10 kills. Sophomore Allegra Recknagel, who is second in the country in assists per set, led Macomb with 28 assists.
The Monarchs, who are now 1-1 in conference play, played well to win in straight sets. The victory puts Macomb at 6-5 on the year. Lauren Holtcamp recorded four blocks for the Monarchs.
Macomb travels to Marengo, Ill this weekend for a tournament at Kishwaukee CC before playing Oakland CC on Sept. 20 in Waterford. The Monarchs next home game comes on Thursday, Sept. 22 against Mott CC at 7 pm.
MONARCHS FALL IN FIVE SETS
The Macomb College volleyball team fell in five sets to a visiting St. Clair Skippers by scores of 26-28, 25-20, 21-25, 27-25, 9-15. The loss drops the Monarchs to 0-1 in the MCCAA Eastern Conference and 5-5 overall. The Monarchs were led by a pair of freshmen, Nora Fa’atiga led the team with 15 kills, while Casey Foren recorded 13 kills.
The Monarchs got off to a slow start, dropping the first game 26-28, before coming back and winning the second 25-20. The third game was won by the Skippers 21-25, but Macomb rebounded with a 27-25 victory in the fourth. St. Clair won the fifth and final game of the match 9-15. Alicia Fowler led Macomb in digs with a career high 28 and Allegra Recknagel led the Monarchs with 42 assists. St. Clair was led by Amanda Curley who recorded 32 kills and 22 digs.
Macomb has a week off to prepare for Henry Ford CC, who they play at 7 pm, next Thurs. Sept. 15 at the Sports & Expo Center.
VOLLEYBALL FINISHES 2-3 IN OHIO
The Macomb College Volleyball team traveled to Perrysberg, Ohio for a two-day tournament. The Monarchs went 1-1 on Friday, defeating Edison CC in three sets before falling to Lansing CC in four sets. On Saturday, the Monarchs went 1-2, defeating Cuyahoga CC in straight sets and losing to Columbus St. in four sets and Vincennes in five sets. The Monarchs were led by Natalie Nufer who recorded 42 kills over the five matches. Lauren Holtcamp added 40 kills.
Macomb started the tournament with a straight set victory over Edison CC. Tasha Evans recorded seven kills on the match, while Allegra Recknagel led the team with 27 assists. After a long wait, Macomb faltered in the second match of the day, falling to Lansing CC in four sets. Nufer recorded fifteen kills in the match.
The Monarchs started the second day with consecutive losses to Vincennes Univ. and Columbus St. Casey Foren and Nora Faatiga recorded 11 kills against Vincennes each, while Nufer had eight kills against Columbus St. The team rebounded in the final match to defeat Cuyahoga CC. Foren led the Monarchs with nine kills.
Macomb opens up the MCCAA Eastern Conference season on this Thursday, Sept. 8 at 7 pm against St. Clair CCC at the Sports & Expo Center.
MONARCHS OPEN SEASON IN COLUMBUS
This weekend the Macomb volleyball team traveled to Columbus for a two day tournament. The Monarchs finished 3-1, defeating Lakeland, Genesee, and Edison, while falling to #9 Owens. Co-Captain Lauren Holtcamp recorded 10 kills on the weekend, tying for the team lead with freshman Casey Foren. Fellow Co-Captain Allegra Recknagel led Macomb in aces (7) and assists (51).
Macomb started the tournament strong on Friday, by defeating Lakeland CC and Genesee CC without dropping a set. The second day of the weekend was more of a struggle for the Monarchs who defeated Edison CC in four sets, and losing to #9 Owens CC in straight sets. The Monarchs have one tournament remaining before the start of league play on Sept. 8 against St. Clair CCC.
The Monarchs return to action next weekend (Sept. 2 & 3), traveling to Perrysburg, OH for a two-day tournament at Owens CC.
TWO SPORT STAR HEADED TO MACOMB
Macomb Community College Softball Coach Joe Cavataio has signed another to a Letter of Intent for the Fall 2011-2012.
Victoria Cannon – East Detroit H.S.
Cannon plans on playing softball and volleyball during
her time at Macomb. Cannon played softball under Coach Tim Woelkers and volleyball under Coach Kevin Nugent. In volleyball she has received All-Conference, All-County, and Team MVP honors, while in softball she led the team with a .475 on-base percentage. She is currently undecided on a major.
EIGHT MONARCHS RETURN FOR 2011
Macomb Community College Head Volleyball Coach Holly Plieth has brought back eight players from last seasons team that finished second in the MCCAA Eastern Conference.
Included in those returning is Lauren Holtcamp, who was
a MCCAA All-Eastern Conference Second Team and All-Freshman member. The Monarchs also bring back MCCAA All-Eastern Conference Third Team member Allegra Recknagel and Honorable Mention All-Eastern Conference Albana Ulic. The Monarchs also bring back Rachel Bujak, who was fourth on the team in kills, Christina
DeMaster, who led the team in digs, Marissa Manzella, who was second on the team in digs, Natalie Nufer, who was third on the team in aces per set, and Elyse Stegner, who was third on the team in assists per set.
With these returning players and a strong start in recruiting, the Monarchs are looking forward to another strong season in 2011.

Tasha has played varsity volleyball for four years under Coach Sue Frederiksen at Almont High School earning Team MVP and All-Conference First Team honors. She has a 3.4 GPA and has been all-academic for three years.
Nora has played varsity volleyball and basketball at Richmond High School earning First Team All-State and First Team All- County honors. She was born in Pago Pago, American Samoa and plans on studying physical therapy.
