Jerome Hickey- Head Coach

Jerome-Hickey.JPGJerome Hickey enters his 3rd season as Macomb's Head Men's Soccer Coach.  Last season, Hickey led the Monarchs to an overall record of 10-7-2 and a conference record of 6-2, which was good for second place in the MCCAA for the regular season.  The Monarchs eventually went on to capture their first Regional Title since becoming a Division I program.  The Regional Championship also earned Hickey the respect of his peers as he was voted Regional and MCCAA Coach of the Year for the first time in his career.

 Hickey has over twenty years of coaching experience. He is currently the Boy's Coaching Director for the Vardar East Soccer Club He served as Head Men's and Women's Coach for fours years at College of the Southwest in New Mexico from 1990-93. Hickey coached various club teams and served as a State Staff Coach for the Olympic Development Program in Louisiana from 1993-97, before moving to the Netherlands, where he coached for eight seasons.

While in the Netherlands, Hickey led his teams to a National Championship and Dutch Cup Championship. He also coached for FC Omniworld's Youth Academy. In Louisiana, he coached two state championship teams. Hickey holds a UEFA "B" Coaching License and an NSCAA National Diploma.

Hickey played for Macomb during the 83-84 seasons for Head Coach Mick Lakatos. He transferred to Siena Heights and competed in the NAIA National Tournament in 1985. Upon graduation, Hickey played semi-professionally for the Permian Basin Shootin' Stars in Odessa, TX.

Hickey and wife Miriam of 16 years, have three children, Kim , Tim and Ben. He earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration from Siena Heights University and Associate of General Studies Degree from Macomb Community College.


Rick Christensen- Assistant Coach

 

 

Rick-Christensen.JPG Rick Christensen enters his eighth season as an Assistant with the Macomb soccer program.  Christensen brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Monarch coaching staff.  He has over 30 years of coaching and playing experience to the program.

 

Christensen, a graduate of Madison High School played a season of soccer at Macomb before playing Semi-Professional soccer in the Florida Gold Coast League.  After his two year stint in Florida, Christensen returned north to play competitively in Canada.

 

Christensen’s coaching experience spans across numerous levels.  He has coached at several area high schools, is the Director of Coaching for Vardar East, and collegiately here at Macomb.  In addition, Christensen is the President of the United Soccer League and has been involved with the Michigan Olympic Developmental Program for 9 years.

 

Over his 29 years of coaching experience, Christensen has earned several awards.  The awards he earned include, 2 Michigan Coach of the Year, Six State Championships, 1 National Championship (Macomb), the Nation FIFA Fair Play Award and Region FIFA Fair Play Award.

 

Christensen and his wife Kathy have been married 24 years and have raised three children, Amanda, Ricky and Kaitlin.
