The mark of a true champion is their perseverance to overcome obstacles. This statement embodies Carissa
Hudson as she battled to return to form after going down with a stress fracture last season. For any athlete watching from the sideline is very difficult! So when this season began Hudson set out to prove she was one of the best runners in the nation. Running with determination in every race, she ran to achieve the status of All-American. On Saturday, November 14th Hudson ran one of her best times of the season in the 5K. She finished 24th with a time of 19:32 earning her the prestigious honor of being called an All-American at the NJCAA Cross Country Championships in Peoria, IL. Salute to Carissa Hudson a true competitor!

Region XII Championship-10/31
On Saturday, October 31, 2009 in Lansing the Macomb Women’s Cross Country team ran to a fifth place finish at the NJCAA Region XII Women's Cross Country Championship. Macomb finished with a total of 106 points. Sophomore
Carissa Hudson ran a time of 20:04 in the 5K race. She finished seventh overall and with that finish, Hudson captured All-Region honors! Other notable performances were turned in by two upcoming freshmen Ciara Pope and Kelsey Wright. Poppe finished thirteenth with a time of 20:24 and Wright finished twenty-first with a time of 20:48. Macomb will have two runners representing the school at the NJCAA Championship November 14th in Peoria, IL; Carissa Hudson and Ciara Poppe both finished in the required time to run in Peoria!

Falcon Invitational-10/17
The 23rd ranked Macomb Women’s Cross-Country team ran the 6K race at the Bowling Green State University Invitational on October 17th. The Lady Monarchs finished with a total 475 points. Leading the way for Macomb was freshman Ciara Poppe with a time of 24:25. She was followed by her teammates Carissa Hudson and Chelsea Myers. Hudson finished the race with a time of 25:33 and Myers finished the race with a time of 25:54. Macomb awaits the Region 12 championship on October 31st.
Michigan Intercollegiate-10/9
The 19th nationally ranked Women’s Cross-Country ran at the Michigan Intercollegiate 5K Race in Grand Rapids this weekend and finished with a total of 545 points. Under awful weather conditions sophomores Carissa Hudson, Chelsea Myers and freshman Kelsey Wright ran well despite the weather. Hudson finished with a time of 20:45, Myers finished with a time of 20:55 and Wright finished with a time of 21:56. The Lady Monarchs will run this weekend on October 17th in the Falcon Invitational on the campus of Bowling Green University at 3:00pm.
Lansing Invitational-10/3
Coming off an impressive win at the Firebird Invitational, the Macomb Lady Monarchs finished seventh overall in the team standings with a total of 180 points at the Lansing Stars Invitational. Macomb was led by a sub 20-minute time in the 5K by Carissa Hudson finishing 24th with a time of 19:59. Chelsea Myers ran a 20:16 to finish in 32nd place, Ciara Poppe finished 41st with a time of 20:37 and Kelsey Wright finished 49th with a time of 21:00. Macomb will run on Friday the 9th at the Michigan Intercollegiate Race in Grand Rapids.
On Fire-9/25
Great things can always be uttered about a team being the first to achieve a certain accomplishment. It is glorious to be the first at
anything and at Kirtland CC on Friday the 25th the Macomb Women’s Cross-Country team finished first at the 1st Annual Kirtland Firebird Cross-Country Invitational. The women’s team was led by sophomore Carissa Hudson taking first overall with a time of 20:35 in the 5 K race and the consistent Chelsea Myers taking second overall with a time of 20:37. Freshman Ciara Poppe placed fourth 21:01. Macomb received a plaque commemorating their achievement as the Kirtland Firebird Cross-Country Invitational Champions. Macomb’s next race is this Saturday, October 3rd in the Lansing Invitational at 12:00pm.
Tommy Titan Invitational-9/12
In the first team meet of the season, the Macomb Lady Monarchs placed 9th as a team at the Tommy Titan Invitational at University of Detroit Mercy. Running in the 5K event sophomore Chelsea Myers completed the race with a time of 21:04 finishing 38th. Freshman Kelsey Wright-Alexander placed 43rd with a time of 21:13 and Ciara Poppe (pronounced Key-ar-ra) placed 48th with a time of 21:22. The Lady Monarchs will continue to build on their team performance on September 25, 2009 at the Firebird Invitational in Roscommon, MI at 3:00pm.
Seasoned Vet
Coming off of an impressive track season with All-American Honorable Mention honors one would think sophomore Chelsea Myers would be out of gas but that isn’t the case. In the opening meet of the season at Oakland University, Myers ran hard and finished 23rd with a time of 20:31. Other top 50 finishes for Macomb was Carissa Hudson in 28th, Kelsey Wright in 30th, Ciara Poppe in 40th and Olivia Tweten in 43rd. Macomb’s next meet is September 12th at U of D Mercy at 9:00am.
The Season Begins
Running for excellence is the exact thing that the Macomb Community College Cross Country team practices and expects to achieve at every meet. The Lady Monarchs Cross Country team will run in six meets this season. The Women’s Cross Country team will open their season on September 5, 2009, at the Oakland Invitational in Rochester, MI. The invitational will begin at 10:00am and Macomb looks to start the season on a good note by running a strong and efficient race. The conclusion of the season is at the national meet in Peoria, IL on November 14, 2009.
Sophomores Carissa Hudson, Olivia Tweten, Chelsea Myers and Kaitlyn Kreger (a track All-American) will anchor the team. Freshman Kelsey Wright-Alexander of Marysville and Ciara Poppe of L'Anse Creuse North are ready to help the team finish in the top 25 of the NJCCA poll for a second consecutive season. 2009 Schedule Released
This season the Monarchs will compete in six meets. The first meet will take place at Bloomer Park in Rochester, and will be hosted by Oakland University, on September 5th.
Macomb will look to build on last seasons success with a core group of sophomores returning and with a talented group of incoming freshman.
The schedule concludes with the National Meet in Peoria, IL, on November 14th.
