Region XII Championship-10/31
On Saturday, October 31, 2009 in Lansing the Macomb
Men’s Cross Country team ran to a fourth place finish at the NJCAA Region XII Men's Cross Country Championship. Macomb finished with a total of 101 points. Freshman Joey Burelle continues to improve as he finished fourteenth in the 8K race with a time of 27:15. Mike King finished eighteenth with a time of 27:31 and Paul Schultz twenty-second with a time of 27:44. Macomb will have two runners representing the school at the NJCAA Championship November 14th in Peoria, IL; Joey Burelle and Mike King both finished in the required time to run in Peoria!
Falcon Invitational-10/17
The 25th ranked Macomb Men’s Cross-Country team ran the 8K race at the Bowling Green State University Invitational on October 17th. The Monarchs finished with a total 446 points. The leading runner for Macomb was none other than Mr. Endurance freshman Joey Burelle with a time of 26:54. Also finishing with good times were Jarron Brewer and Ryan Renas. Brewer finished the race with a time of 27:20 and Renas finished the race with a time of 28:07. Macomb awaits the Region 12 championship on October 31st.
Michigan Intercollegiate-10/9
The 23rd nationally ranked Men’s Cross-Country ran at the Michigan Intercollegiate 8K Race in Grand Rapids this weekend and finished with a total of 640 points. Under awful weather conditions freshman Joey Burelle finished with a time of 27:40. Sophomore Paul Schultz finished with a time of 29:40 and freshman Mike King finished with a time of 30:00. The Monarchs will run this weekend on October 17th in the Falcon Invitational on the campus of Bowling Green University at 3:00pm.
Lansing Invitational-10/3
The Macomb Monarchs were back to business as they ran in the Lansing Stars Invitational this past weekend. Macomb finished sixth overall in the team standings with a total of 169 points. The Results from the 7K run had freshman Joey Burelle capturing the 17th spot finishing in a time of 27:09. Paul Schultz and Mike King finished 43rd and 44th with a time of 27:47. Macomb will run on Friday the 9th at the Michigan Intercollegiate Race in Grand Rapids.
Blazing Trails-9/25
Great things can always be uttered about a team being the first to achieve a certain accomplishment. It is glorious to
be the first at anything and at Kirtland CC on Friday the 25th the Macomb Men’s Cross-Country team finished first at the 1st Annual Kirtland Firebird Cross-Country Invitational. The men’s team was led by Mr. Endurance freshman Joey Burelle finishing the 7 K run with a time of 21:17 and taking first overall in the race. Freshman Mike King finished third with a time of 22:21 and the veteran sophomore Ryan Renas finished fourth with a time of 22:28. Macomb received a plaque commemorating their achievement as the Kirtland Firebird Cross-Country Invitational Champions. Macomb’s next race is this Saturday, October 3rd in the Lansing Invitational at 12:00pm.
Tommy Titan Invitational-9/12
In the first team meet of the season, the Monarchs ran the 4 mile race and placed 6th as a team. The team was led by freshman sensation Joey Burelle with a 25th place finish and a time of 21:48. Freshman Mike King finished with a time of 22:43 in 47th place. The Monarchs look to improve at the Firebird Invitational in Roscommon, MI at 3:00pm on September 25, 2009.
Fresh Feet
In his first collegiate meet against great talent, freshman
Joey Burelle ran against some of the best the NJCAA has to offer and some Division-1 collegiate teams in the Golden Grizzle Invitational. This was the opening meet of the season and this race tested the endurance of the participants. Burelle finished in the top 15 with a 12th place finish with a time of 19:50. Other noteworthy performances placing in the top 50 was Mike King in 33rd, Jarron Brewer in 37th, Paul Schultz in 39th, Brett Golze in 45th and Will Gerstenberger in 50th. Macomb’s next meet is September 12th at U of D Mercy at 9:00am.

The Season Begins
Running for excellence is the exact thing that the Macomb Community College Cross Country team practices and expects to achieve at every meet. The Monarchs Cross Country team will run in six meets this season. The Men’s Cross Country team will open their season on September 5, 2009, at the Oakland Invitational in Rochester, MI. The invitational will begin at 10:00am and Macomb looks to start the season on a good note by running a strong and efficient race. The conclusion of the season is at the national meet in Peoria, IL on November 14, 2009.
Head Coach Kim Renas begins his 27th year of coaching at Macomb and looks to his sophomore athletes to lead the team. Sophomores Ryan Renas (a track All-American) and Paul Schultz look to lead and continue their success as the focal point of the team. However, watch out for newcomer freshman Joey Burelle from Sterling Heights Stevenson to run his way into contention for post-season awards. For a complete roster please click the link.
2009 Schedule Released
This season the Monarchs will compete in six meets. The first meet will take place at Bloomer Park in Rochester, and will be hosted by Oakland University, on September 5th.
Macomb will look to build on last seasons success with a core group of sophomores returning and with a talented group of incoming freshman.
The schedule concludes with the National Meet in Peoria, IL, on November 14th.
