MONARCHS SAIL PAST SKIPPERS
The Macomb women’s basketball team improved to 9-1 and remain in a share of first place in the MCCAA Eastern Conference following a 64-38 victory over St. Clair County CC on Wednesday evening. Dominique Mahone finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead Macomb.
The Monarchs, who going into Wednesday, was the number one team in the country in Team Defense, held the Skippers to 38 points off of 26% shooting. Macomb out-rebounded St. Clair 47-40 for the game, and committed only seven fouls.
Caitlin Carter had 13 points off the bench for Macomb. Kristian Hines had 10 points and four assists for the Monarchs. Heidi Highstreet was the only Skipper in double-figures, with 10 points and six rebounds.
The Monarchs will play Henry Ford in Dearborn, on Saturday February 4th at 1 pm.
MACOMB DEFEATS RAIDERS
The Macomb women’s basketball team defeated Oakland CC 73-36 on Saturday afternoon. The Monarchs are now 8-1 in conference and remain in a share of first place. Macomb was led by Heather Kehrer, who was a perfect 6-6 from the floor, finishing with 15 points.
The Monarchs led the whole way, jumping out to a 31-14 lead at the half. The Monarchs held the Raiders to 21% shooting , while forcing 28 turnovers. Macomb shot 42% from the floor and had 18 assists on 29 baskets.
Precious Allen had 12 points for Macomb. Ally Theut had 11 points off the bench for the Monarchs. Dominique Mahone had a team high 11 rebounds. Oakland was led by Jillian Carland, who had 14 points.
Macomb returns home to face St. Clair CCC on Wednesday, February 1st at 5:30 pm at the Sports & Expo Center.
MACOMB KNOCKS OFF LUMBERJACKS
The Macomb women’s basketball team moved to 7-1 and a tie for first place in the MCCAA Eastern Conference following a 79-42 victory over Alpena CC on Wednesday evening at the Sports & Expo Center. The Monarchs were led by Dominique Mahone, who had 17 points and 15 rebounds.
The Monarchs started the game fast, out-scoring the Lumberjacks 37-13 in the first half. The Lumberjacks shot 19% for the half and had 15 turnovers. Macomb played well as a team, with 23 assists on 28 field goals. 11 out of 12 Monarchs scored in the game.
Kristian Hines finished the game with 10 points. Caitlin Carter had eight points off of the bench for Macomb. Brianne Woycehoski had nine rebounds. For the Lumberjacks, Kayla Weaver had 17 points and nine rebounds. Greta Grambau had ten points off of the bench for Alpena.

MACOMB WINS NON-CONFERENCE GAME
The Macomb women’s basketball team took a break from their conference slate to take on St. Clair (Windsor) on Monday evening at the Sports & Expo Center. The Monarchs defeated the Saints, 71-49 behind 23 points, eight rebounds, six steals, and four blocks from Dominique Mahone.
Macomb struggled shot 30% in the first half, but held a 29-24 lead after forcing 24 Saint turnovers. The Monarchs shot better in the second half, shooting 39%, and out-scored St. Clair 42-24 in the half. Macomb forced 42 turnovers for the game, and had 32 steals.
Kristian Kines had 13 points and Precious Allen finished with 10 points for Macomb. Brianne Woycehoski finished with a game-high 13 rebounds for the Monarchs. Amanda McCarthy had 16 points for the Saints.
Macomb improves to 11-7 on the year. The next game for the Monarchs is on Wednesday, January 25th at 5:30 pm against Alpena CC.
MONARCHS LOSE FIRST CONFERENCE GAME
The Macomb women’s basketball team lost their first game in their last 10, following a 60-55 overtime loss to Schoolcraft on Saturday afternoon. The Monarchs were outscored 8-3 in the overtime period. Dominique Mahone led Macomb with 14 points, 15 rebounds, and seven blocks.
The Monarchs held a two point lead with the ball, with under 30 seconds remaining in the game, but a steal and a lay-up by Domonique Jones with 15 left sent the game into overtime. Both teams struggled from the field the entire game, Macomb shot 36% for the contest and the Ocelots shot 31% for the game. The Monarchs struggled with the Schoolcraft pressure, giving up 30 turnovers.
Precious Allen was the only other Monarch in double figures, with 10 points. Brianne Woycehoski had a season-high 13 rebounds for Macomb. Shanequa Braggs led Schoolcraft in scoring with 13 points. Ashley Beeman had 11 points and Jones had 10 for the Ocelots.

MONARCHS WIN 10TH IN A ROW
The Macomb women’s basketball team defeated Kirtland CC 69-27 on Wednesday evening in Mio. The Monarchs improved to 6-0 and are in sole possession of first place in the MCCAA Eastern Conference. Caitlin Carter led all scorers with 14 points, while collecting five assists for Macomb.
The Monarchs got off to a fast start, holding a 22 points halftime lead while holding the Firebirds to 16% shooting for the half. The second half was much of the same, as Macomb held Kirtland to 12 points and 16% shooting for the game. The Monarchs also forced 24 Firebird turnovers.
Precious Allen was the only other Monarch in double figures, finishing with 13 points and nine rebounds. Dominique Mahone had a game-high 12 rebounds, while also chipping in with six points and three blocks. Brooke Arnold was Kirtland’s leading scorer, finishing with nine points.

MACOMB IMPROVES TO 5-0
The Macomb women’s basketball team improved to 5-0 in the MCCAA Eastern Conference with a 65-51 victory over Delta College on Saturday afternoon at the Sports & Expo Center. The Monarchs were led by Dominique Mahone, who recorded team highs in points and rebounds with 13 and 12.
The Macomb defense stifled Delta’s shooting all afternoon, holding the Pioneers to 23% shooting for the game, 20% in the second half. The Monarchs also struggled shooting from the floor, shooting under 36% for the game. The Monarchs won the battle on the boards, out-rebounding Delta 54-45 for the game.
Kristian Hines had 11 points and six rebounds for Macomb, while Caitlin Carter finished with 10 points and five assists. Brianne Woycehoski had 11 rebounds for the Monarchs. Nana Hall had a game high 21 points and 13 rebounds for Delta. Kelly Dineen finished with 15 points for the Pioneers.

MACOMB TOPS MOTT
The Macomb women’s basketball team is now on an eight game winning streak and improved to 4-0 in conference play after a 54-42 victory at Mott CC on Wednesday evening. Precious Allen led Macomb with 13 points and eight rebounds.
Both teams played well defensively, Mott holding Macomb to 37% shooting for the game, and Mott only shooting 28% for the game. Both teams also struggled holding onto the ball, with Macomb finishing with 26 turnovers, while Mott had 28 turnovers for the game.
Dominique Mahone recorded another double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Ashley Thomas chipped in with eight points and Caitlin Carter had seven points and six assists for Macomb. For Mott, Rhonettia Davis led all scorers with 18 points. Kaylee Rahman was the only other Bear in double figures, finishing with 11 points.
The Monarchs look to continue the streaks as Delta visits Macomb on Saturday, January 14 at 1 pm at the Sports & Expo Center.
MONARCHS IMPROVE TO 3-0
The Macomb women’s basketball team improved their MCCAA Eastern Conference record to 3-0 following an 84-25 victory over Wayne County CCD. Caitlin Carter led all scorers with 18 points.
The Monarchs played well defensively the entire game, holding the Wildcats to 25 points off of 23% shooting for the game. Macomb forced 36 turnovers for the game. The win was the seventh in a row for the team.
Kristian Hines finished with 13 points, Precious Allen had 12 points, and Heather Kehrer had 10 points for the game for Macomb. Dominique Mahone led the Monarchs with 10 rebounds. Sicily Baker led the Wildcats with 10 points.

MONARCHS CRUISE TO VICTORY
The Macomb women’s basketball team cruised to a 71-35 victory over Henry Ford in the team’s home conference opener. The team was led by Dominique Mahone who finished with the team lead in points (13) and rebounds (15).
Macomb jumped out to a 44-13 halftime lead, behind 47% shooting, while holding the Hawks to 20%. For a second straight game, the Monarchs dominated the rebounding battle, holding a 60-37 advantage.
Kristian Hines and Precious Allen each scored 11 points for Macomb. Henry Ford was led by Dejanique Reddix, who finished with a game high 15 points. Jasmine Korczak finished with 10 points.

MONARCHS ROLL IN CONFERENCE OPENER
The Macomb women’s basketball team defeated St. Clair CCC 65-42 in the team’s first MCCAA Eastern Conference game of the season. The Monarchs were led by Kristian Hines, who finished with 13 points, four rebounds, and four assists.
Both teams struggled from the floor the entire night, Macomb shot 36% from the field, but held St. Clair to 28% shooting for the game. The Monarchs dominated the Skippers on the glass, out-rebounding their opponent, 57-30 on the game.
Caitlin Carter was the only other Monarch in double-figures with 12 points. Dominique Mahone had a nice effort off of the bench, with nine points and a game-high 14 rebounds. The Skippers were led by Heidi Highstreet, the sister of former Monarch Jackie Highstreet, who finished with a game-high 15 points. Tiesha Knott had five points, eight rebounds, and seven blocks for St. Clair.

MACOMB DEFEATS SIENA HEIGHTS
The Macomb women’s basketball team defeated Siena Heights 68-55 on Sunday afternoon at the Sports & Expo Center. Alyssa Theut led Macomb with 14 points.
Macomb was leading 33-27 at the break, but showed strong defense in the second half, holding the Saints to six field goals in the second half. Precious Allen finished the game with 11 points and 17 rebounds. Two other Monarchs finished in double figures, Caitlin Carter, 13 points, and Ashley Thomas, 12 points. Caylie Boehmer led Siena Heights in scoring with 12 points.
Macomb next travels to Buffalo, NY for the Lady Kats Holiday Classic from December 28-30. The Monarchs open league play on January 4th at 5:30 pm at St. Clair CCC.
MACOMB ROUTS ROCHESTER
The Macomb women’s basketball team defeated Rochester College 98-39 on Tuesday evening at the Sports & Expo Center. The Monarchs had five players finish with double figures, led by 21 from Precious Allen.
Macomb started the game fast, scoring the first seven points of the game and leading 48-17 at the half. The game marks the second time this year that the Monarchs has beaten a team by more than 50 points.
Caitlin Carter and Brianne Woycehoski each scored 13 for the Monarchs. Kristian Hines and Danielle Meyer both had 10 points from Macomb. Rochester was led by Jacqueline Noel, who finished with 11 points and five assists.

MACOMB FALLS AT ALBION
The Macomb women’s basketball team lost a heartbreaker on Saturday afternoon 52-50 at Albion. Kristian Hines led Macomb with 12 points and five assists.
The Brit's Katie Swick’s three-pointer with 15 seconds remaining gave Albion was the difference in the contest. The Monarchs struggled from the floor the entire game shooting under 30% for the contest. Macomb was 0 for 11 in three-point attempts in the first half, and shot under 18% from behind the arc.
Precious Allen had a season high 18 rebounds for Macomb. Madeline Winters led all scorers with 19 points. Swick chipped in with 11 for the Brits.

MONARCHS OPEN SEASON WITH VICTORY OVER MID-MICHIGAN
The Macomb women’s basketball team opened the season traveling to Mount Pleasant to take on Mid-Michigan CC. The Monarchs defeated the Lakers 71-43. Macomb was led by Precious Allen, who had 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Macomb led 33-18 at the half, behind eight points and nine rebounds from Allen. The Macomb defense held Mid-Michigan to 25% shooting in the 1st half and 31% for the game. Breanne Woycehoski chipped in with eight points and 10 rebounds. Kristian Hines had nine points and three assists for Macomb.
Macomb’s next game is the team’s home opener, on Friday, November 11, at 5:30 pm against Marygrove College.
MONARCHS FALL IN EXHIBITION GAME
The Macomb women’s basketball team played University of Michigan Dearborn in an exhibition game on Wednesday nights. The Monarchs fell 57-55 in a very close game. Macomb was led by Precious Allen who finished the game with 10 points and 13 rebounds.
UM-Dearborn’s Jalissa Williams scored with 3.1 seconds remaining to break the 55-55 tie. Macomb rallied from a 13 point halftime deficit to make the game close in the final minutes. Macomb shot 22% while only scoring 16 points in the first half.
Caitlin Carter led Macomb in scoring with 12 points. Ashley Thomas chipped in with a career high 11 points for Macomb. All 12 Monarchs who made the trip played in the game. UM-Dearborn’s Danielle Cowart led all scorers with 15 points.
Macomb’s next game is an exhibition contest against Trinity University in Chicago on Oct. 29th at 3 pm.
HOLDSWORTH INKS WITH MACOMB
Macomb Community College Women’s Basketball Coach Jay Ritchie has signed his first player to a Letter of Intent for the Fall 2011-2012.

Holdsworth played varsity basketball for three years
at Romeo High School under Coach Connie Hernden. This past season, Holdworth averaged seven points and over three assists per game. She received Team MVP honors her freshman season. She plans on majoring in Nursing.
COUNTY'S BEST PLAY AT MACOMB
Some of Macomb County’s best high school seniors played their final game in the 2011 Macomb County All-Star Game. One of the coaches on the girl’s side was Tom Daly, who coached at Sterling Heights High School
for 20 years, assisted by Sara Crum Tocco, who is an assistant coach at Utica High School and the all-time leader in points and rebounds at Sterling Heights. On the other bench was Larry Clemens, who has been at Chippewa Valley since 1963, assisted by Michelle VanGorp, former WNBA player from Chippewa Valley then Purdue and Duke University.
The game featured 23 players from 19 schools. The game was won by the team wearing the home jerseys with a score of 73-64. Takla Kamal and Samantha Simmerson each scored 17 points on the game. Macomb Community College volleyball recruit Nora Faatiga chipped in with 13 points and seven rebounds.
The men’s game featured 35 players from 26 different schools. The coaches for the game were Dick Christy, who coached at Sterling Heights High School for 26
years, and Jim Barker, who has coached at Ford High School since 1971. Kevin Dunaj was named MVP of the game, scoring 14 points and contributing six rebounds. Macomb Community College basketball recruit Craig Smelley scored 10 points for the away team.
SEVERAL MONARCHS RECEIVE POSTSEASON HONORS
Macomb Community College women’s basketball team benefiting from one of it’s best seasons in many years received postseason honors this week.
Jackie Highstreet led the way finishing on the All-Region, All-MCCAA, and All-Eastern Conference First Team Honors.
Chanequa Hills received Second Team All-Eastern Conference honors.
Sadie Howell received All-Eastern All-Freshman Team Conference honors.
MONARCHS SEASON ENDS IN QUARTERS
Macomb Community College women’s basketball team fell 58-47 to Oakland on Wednesday evening in the quarterfinals of the District H tournament. Jackie Highstreet led the way for the Monarchs with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
Macomb struggled from the floor the entire night, shooting 16% in the first half and 25% for the game. The Monarchs trailed by 11 points at the break despite their shooting woes. Oakland led by as much as 16 in the second half, but Macomb battled back and was only down eight points with six minutes remaining, but could not get any closer.
Sadie Howell was second on Macomb in scoring with eight points, while Breanne Woycehoski finished with six rebounds. Oakland was led by Meagan Heiden, who finished with 18 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Andrea Almassy chipped in 14 for the Raiders.
Macomb finished the regular season with a 19-8 overall record and a 9-7 record in the conference. The Monarchs fourth place finish in the conference was their highest since the 1997-1998 season
MONARCHS TO HOST OAKLAND IN DISTRICT H TOURNAMENT
Macomb Community College women’s basketball team will host Oakland CC on Tuesday, Mar. 1st in the first round of the District H tournament.
The two teams split their meetings in the regular season, with each team winning on their home court. On Jan. 26th Oakland overcame a three point halftime deficit to defeat the Monarchs 63-57. On Feb. 23, Macomb ended their regular season and avenged the earlier loss by defeating the Raiders 81-41.
The rubber match will be played at 7 pm at the Macomb Sports & Expo Center.
MONARCHS AVENGE LOSS WITH BIG WIN
The Macomb Community College women’s basketball team avenged an earlier season loss by beating Oakland 81-41 on Wednesday evening at the Sports & Expo Center. The Monarchs were led by Sadie Howell, who finished with a game-high 18 points.
Macomb led the game by 15 at the half, holding the Raiders to 21% shooting. The Monarchs started the second half on fire, going on a 15-4 run and outscoring Oakland 37-9 in the first 12:30 of the half. All Monarchs played and scored in the game, contributing to this complete team effort.
Chanequa Hills finished with 13 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists for the Monarchs. Jackie Highstreet had 10 points and led Macomb with eight rebounds. Kayla Chriss led Oakland with nine points.

MONARCHS CANNOT CAPITALIZE ON LATE CHANCES
The Macomb Community College women’s basketball team fell 71-64 on Saturday afternoon against Schoolcraft. Sadie Howell led Macomb with 18 points, including four three-pointers.
The Monarchs had two chances to tie the game with less than 30 seconds remaining; Chanequa Hills missed a contested lay-up with 24 seconds remaining with Schoolcraft ahead by two points. After Kimberly Bee split a pair of free throws to put the Ocelots up three, Diamond Tolliver stole an inbounds pass and connected on two free throws to put the game out of reach.
Macomb started the game strong holding a one point halftime lead despite leading scorer Jackie Highstreet only playing seven minutes because of foul trouble. The Ocelots out-rebounded Macomb by nine in the second half, after being out-rebounded by five in the first half.
Highstreet had 13 points for Macomb. Caitlin Carter had a season-best 10 assists in only 21 minutes to lead the Monarchs. Bee led all players with 19 points, 15 rebounds and five blocks. Shawnicka Thomas had 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Tolliver chipped in 13 points for Schoolcraft.

STRONG SECOND HALF LIFTS MONARCHS
Macomb Community College women’s basketball team used an impressive second half effort for a 57-42 victory over visiting Kirtland on Wednesday evening at the Sports & Expo Center. Jackie Highstreet led Macomb, outscoring Kirtland by herself in the second half 16-14, while finishing with 18 points and 16 rebounds.
Kirtland started the game strong outscoring Macomb in the first half 28-23. With Highstreet and strong team defense the Monarchs outscored the Firebirds 34-14 in the second stanza. Macomb held Kirtland to 20% shooting in the second half and 28% for the game, while also forcing 20 turnovers.
Sadie Howell and Brittany Chapman each scored 11 points for Macomb. Caitlin Carter led the Monarchs with 5 assists. Domonique Richards led Kirtland with a game-high 22 points.
The Monarchs look to avenge an earlier season loss to Schoolcraft on Saturday, Feb. 19th at 1 pm in Livonia.
MACOMB LOSES BATTLE FOR SECOND
Macomb Community College women’s basketball team lost a heartbreaker 69-68 to Delta on Saturday afternoon in Saginaw. The Monarchs were led by Jackie Highstreet who had 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Chanequa Hills stole an inbounds pass with 2.6 seconds remaining in the game, but stepped on the baseline while attempting a game-winning lay-up. Delta held a seven point lead with a little over 1 minute remaining, but Macomb battled back and had a chance for the lead.
Sadie Howell led Macomb in scoring with 18 points. Hills recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 assists. Delta was lead by Ashley Root who had 18 points. Grace Baumgartner scored 14 points, while Brittany Wiggins chipped in with 10 points for the Pioneers.

MACOMB SWEEPS MOTT
Macomb Community College women’s basketball team cruised to an easy 63-40 victory over an undermanned Mott Lady Bears. Jackie Highstreet led the Monarchs with a game high 18 points and a team high 13 rebounds.
Mott started the game with six players, but was forced to play majority of the game with five players after a serious injury to one of their players. Macomb jumped out to a 34-27 halftime lead, before stifling defense combined with tired legs caused the Lady bears to shoot under 17% for the second half.
Brianne Woycehoski was second on Macomb in scoring with seven points, while also adding seven rebounds. Chanequa Hills added nine rebounds and four assists for the Monarchs. Kaleigh Reese led Mott with 12 points and a game high 18 rebounds. Adrienne Weaver chipped in with 11 points for the Lady Bears.
Macomb’s next game is on Saturday, Feb. 12th against Delta CC at 1 pm. This contest will be for second place in the MCCAA Eastern Conference. Delta won the first meeting 75-64 in overtime on Jan. 12th.
MONARCHS LOSE HEARTBREAKER
The Macomb Community College women’s basketball team lost a 62-57 heartbreaker on Monday night against Siena Heights. Sadie Howell led the Monarchs in scoring with 13 points and eight rebounds.
The Monarchs battled back from an 11 point second half deficit and had a chance to take the lead late, but Caitlin Carter missed a three-point attempt with 52 seconds to go in a tied game. Amanda Duke’s three point play with 44 seconds remaining gave Siena Heights the lead. The Monarchs fumbled their next possession away, when Jackie Highstreet lost the ball out-of-bounds under the basket, then free throws by Jennifer Jankoska sealed the victory for the Saints.
Jackie Highstreet was second on Macomb with nine points and four rebounds. Chanequa Hills added seven points and three assists for the Monarchs. Jankoska and Duke each led Siena Heights with 14 points. Christine Hardy led all rebounders with nine.

MONARCHS CRUISE TO EASY VICTORY
After having to wait a day due to weather conditions, Macomb Community College women’s basketball team beat Henry Ford Community College 81-60 on Thursday evening. All Monarchs scored in the game and Jackie Highstreet led all players with 23 points.
Macomb started the game strong with a 10-2 run, while jumping out to a 53-31 halftime lead behind 55% shooting. The Monarchs led by as many as 32 in the second half, but the undermanned Hawks team competed throughout the game despite having five players for the contest.
Shelby Saikowski was second on the Monarchs in scoring with eight points. Brianne Woycehoski led the team with eight rebounds, while also chipping in with seven points and three assists. Henry Ford had four players in double figures, led by Asha Payne’s 20 points. Jasmine Johnson contributed with 12 points and 15 rebounds for the Hawks.

MACOMB RALLYS AGAINST ST. CLAIR
Macomb Community College rallied from an eight points halftime deficit to defeat St. Clair County 67-58 on Saturday afternoon at the Sports & Expo Center. Jackie Highstreet led the Monarchs with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Macomb used a strong defensive effort to spark the comeback, holding the Skippers to under 27% shooting for the game, including 7-34 from behind the three point line for under 21%. The Monarchs outrebounded the Skippers by 13 for the game and shot 50% in the second half.
Chanequa Hills and Sadie Howell led Macomb in scoring with 13 points each. Heather Kehrer added eight points. Korea Jackson led all scorers with 14 points for St. Clair. Jenna Staufer added 10 points and nine rebounds for the Skippers.

MONARCHS DOMINATE WINDSOR ST. CLAIR
Macomb Community College women’s basketball team beat Windsor St. Clair 80-32 on Friday night at the Sports & Expo Center in one of the most lopsided victories in school history. For the Monarchs, Chanequa Hills, Sadie Howell, and Shelby Saikowski all tied for the team lead with 11 points.
Macomb had their best defensive performance of the season, holding the Saints to under 16% shooting for the game, including 11% in the first half. On the offensive end, Macomb shot almost 56% in the second half, and over 46% for the game. This was a complete team effort for the Monarchs, who had 26 assists on 31 baskets.
Brianne Woycehoski and Heather Kehrer tied for the team lead with eight rebounds for Macomb. Katie D’Hondt and Hills tied for the team lead with 5 assists. For St. Clair, Sara Levesque had 11 points and seven rebounds.
Macomb’s next game is on Wednesday, Jan. 26th at 5:30 at Oakland CC.
MACOMB LOSES IN SHOWDOWN FOR FIRST PLACE
Macomb Community College women’s basketball team fell 63-54 to Schoolcraft College on Wednesday evening at the Sports & Expo Center. Jackie Highstreet and Chanequa Hills led the Monarchs with 13 points each.
The Monarchs squandered a chance to move into first place of the MCCAA Eastern Conference. Macomb took a brief 39-38 lead halfway through the second half, but the Ocelots scored the next seven points. Macomb had a chance to tie the game with 1:30 left in the game, but Sadie Howell’s three pointer just missed.
Precious Allen led all players with 15 rebounds for Macomb. Caitlin Carter chipped in with eight points. For Schoolcraft, Diamond Tolliver led all players with 21 points. Kimberley Bee had 13 points and tied with Shanequa Braggs for the team lead with 12 rebounds.
Macomb hosts St. Clair Windsor on Friday, Jan. 21 at 7 pm at the Sports & Expo Center.
MONARCHS SURVIVE SCARE
Macomb Community College women’s basketball team held of Kirtland Community College for a 58-57 victory on Saturday at the McGregor Athletic Complex in Mio. Chanequa Hills led the Monarchs with 14 points, while adding five rebounds.
Kirtland’s Amanda Head, 11 points, missed on a last second shot at the buzzer, to seal the victory for Macomb. The Monarchs led 31-22 at the break, but the Firebirds battled throughout the second half. Kirtland tied the game at 54-54, but a Shelby Saikowski, six points, basket with 2:05 remaining gave the Monarchs a lead they would not relinquish.
Caitlin Carter and Jackie Highstreet each scored nine points for Macomb, while Sadie Howell led the team with eight rebounds. Teri Taylor led all players with 22 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks.
Macomb next plays first place Schoolcraft CC on Wednesday, Jan. 19th at 5:30pm at the Sports and Expo Center.
MONARCHS FALTER IN OT
Macomb Community College women’s basketball team lost for the first time this season 75-64 in overtime against visiting Delta College on Wednesday evening at the Sports and Expo Center. Jackie Highstreet’s 15-point performance was not enough to lift the Monarchs, who fall to 14-1 overall, 5-1 in the conference.
The Monarchs struggled from the free throw line the entire night, missing their last three free throws of regulation and shooting 47% on the night. Both teams squandered opportunities near the end of regulation with costly turnovers. After trading baskets for the first two minutes of the overtime session, the Pioneers scored the final 11 points of the game.
Courtney Neiderquill led all scorers with 26 points, including eight points in overtime. Nana Hall contributed with 14 points, 14 rebounds, and seven steals. Jessica Duncan had 16 points and Grace Baumgartner had 10 points, nine rebounds for the Pioneers. For Macomb, Chanequa Hills had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Precious Allen just missed a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.
Macomb next plays this Saturday, Jan. 15 at 1 pm at Kirtland CC.
MONARCHS IMPROVE TO 14-0
Macomb Community College women’s basketball team improved to 14-0 (5-0) with a 75-61 victory over Mott Community College on Saturday afternoon in Flint. Jackie Highstreet led the Monarchs with 17 points and nine rebounds.
Macomb shot an astonishing 57% for the game, but kept Mott in the game with 25 turnovers. The Monarchs used a 12-0 run late in the first half to take the lead, finishing the half with a 41-28 lead.
Chanequa Hills added 12 points and six rebounds for the Monarchs, while Sadie Howell scored 11 points and Brittany Chapman pulled down seven rebounds. For Mott, Adrienne Weaver led all scorers with 26 points and Beth Kozar added 20 points.
Macomb next plays on Wednesday, Jan. 12 at 5:30 pm at the Sports and Expo Center against Delta C.C.
MONARCHS REMAIN UNBEATEN
The Macomb Community College women’s basketball team remained undefeated with a 70-46 victory over Henry Ford Community College on Monday night at the Sports and Expo Center. Jackie Highstreet led all scorers with 18 points, while contributing seven rebounds.
The Monarchs used an impressive 18-0 run to end the first half en route to a 34-14 lead at the break. Henry Ford struggled against Macomb’s defense all night, shooting 21 percent in the first half and 25 percent for the game.
Precious Allen just missed a double-double with 12 points and eight rebounds. Caitlin Carter added eight assists and eight rebounds for the Monarchs. Katrina Anderson led Henry Ford with 17 points, while Qualisha Boswell led the Hawks with nine rebounds.
Macomb will next take on Mott Community College on Saturday, Jan. 8 in Flint. The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
MACOMB REMAINS UNDEFEATED IN 86-65 ROUT OF SIENA HEIGHTS
Chanequa Hills posted a team-high 18 points to go along with four steals, while Katie D’Hondt went a perfect 3-3 from behind the arc en route to a 15-point night, as the Macomb Community College women’s basketball team (5-0) continued to roll on their unbeaten streak with a 86-65 win over Siena Heights Monday evening at the Sports and Expo Center.
The Monarchs set the tone early in the first half, leading 46-29 after the first 20 minutes. Macomb didn’t look back in the second half, either, shooting an impressive 66 percent from the floor for the 86-65 victory.
Jackie Highstreet just missed posting a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds, while Precious Allen added 12 points of her own to go along with eight boards. For Siena Heights, Jennifer Kankoska led all players with 21 points, while MyEisha Agnew added 10 points.
Macomb will next take on Rochester College on Wednesday, Dec. 1 in Rochester. The game is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
MACOMB DEFEATS ROCHESTER COLLEGE 60-51
Jackie Highstreet scored 18 points and Chanequa Hills added 10 points, six rebounds and five assists off the bench as the Macomb Community College women’s basketball team (3-0) defeated Rochester College 60-51 Friday evening at the Sports and Expo Center.
After going into the locker room at the half with the game tied 24-24, the second half went through three ties before the Warriors led by as many as eight points with just over 10 minutes to play. But Macomb chipped away at the lead and went on an 11-point tear to reclaim the lead with 5:59 to go. From there, the Monarchs didn’t look back and went ahead by as many as nine points to take the 60-51 victory.
Precious Allen scored eight points and pulled down six rebounds, while Brianne Woycehoski grabbed six rebounds of her own for the Monarchs. Macomb held a commanding 40-22 advantage in rebounds, including a 28-15 edge on the defensive glass.
For the Warriors, Ka'imana Ka'aikala led all players on the floor with 26 points.
Macomb will look to extend their winning streak to four games when they take on Marygrove College on Wednesday, Nov. 24 at the Sports and Expo Center. Tip is scheduled for 7 pm.
MACOMB SHUTS DOWN MID-MICHIGAN 84-36
Freshman Precious Allen lead the Monarchs with 14 points, while freshman Alyssa Theut went 3-4 behind the three-point arc in an 11 point effort as the Macomb Community College women’s basketball team (2-0) routed Mid-Michigan Community College 84-36 Saturday at the Sports and Expo Center.
The Monarchs held a commanding lead from the get-go, holding down a 44-16 advantage at the half and were assisted by the additional double-digit efforts of freshman Shelby Saikowski with 11 points and 10 points from freshman Ashley Thomas, who also pulled down seven rebounds. Sophomore Jasmine Flanagan dished out an additional five assists and freshman Caitlin Carter added nine points and two steals off the bench.
For the Lakers, Ashton Finney led all players on the floor with 18 points.
Macomb outrebounded Mid-Michigan 41-28 and held the Lakers to just 23 percent shooting for the game. The Monarchs also shot an impressive 64 percent from beyond the arc, going 9-14.
Macomb will next scrimmage against Adrian College on Saturday, Nov. 13 and will return to regular season action against Rochester College on Friday, Nov. 19 for a 5:30 pm tilt at the Sports and Expo Center.
MONARCHS SAIL PAST MARYGOVE IN SEASON OPENER
Sophomore Jackie Highstreet posted a team-high 11 points and six rebounds while freshmen Alyssa Theut and Precious Allen added 10 points apiece to lead the Macomb College women’s basketball team (1-0) to a 66-43 victory over Marygrove College (0-1) Tuesday evening at the Sports and Expo Center.
Despite a 21-point effort from Marygrove’s Tiffany Coleman, the Monarchs were able to keep the Mustangs in check and limit them to 31 percent shooting from the floor.
Sophomore Alyssa D’Hondt and freshman Shelby Saikowski also contributed eight points apiece off the bench for the Monarchs.
Macomb will next play host to Mid-Michigan on Saturday, Nov. 6 for a 1 p.m. tip.
Schedule Release
The 2010-11 Women’s Basketball Schedule was released this week. The Mighty Monarchs will open the season on November 2nd at home against Marygrove College. Macomb’s first true test should be against Siena Heights University. The Monarchs will open conference play in a holiday hoops back-to-back against Alpena on December 21st-22nd.
