Henry Washington- Head Coach, Academic Coordinator, Adjunct Instructor
Veteran Coach Henry Washington begins his 15th season as Head Men's Basketball Coach at Macomb. Washington is coming off a year in which he was named MCCAA Eastern Conference Coach of the Year.
Washington brings a wealth of knowledge and experience and imparts it upon his student-athletes daily. In addition to coaching at Macomb, Washington serves as Academic Coordinator and is also a member of the Physical Education Department as a lecturer and Adjunct Faculty.
Washington's teams are known for a disciplined open offense and a tough man-to-man and sometimes scrappy trapping defense. Macomb, under Washington, has had a rebounder in the top ten nationally in 5 of the last 6 seasons. His teams have also finished in the top ten nationally, on many occasions, in scoring defense.
This is Washington's second stint at Macomb. From 1986-89, Washington was an assistant under John Switchulis, a legendary coach at Macomb. During that span, Macomb's team was regularly ranked in the top ten nationally and was even ranked #1 during the 1987-88 season.
Many of Washington's players have continued their careers at four-year schools. Current assistants Terrance Walker (Macomb Hall of Fame) and Aaron Williams both prepped for Washington at Southeastern High School, before their collegiate careers at Macomb.
Washington began his collegiate coaching career at Wayne State University in 1985, where he was an Assitant Women's Basketball Coach.
Washington's coaching career spans over 28 years, many of those years Washington was dividing his time between teaching and coaching in high school as well as at the college level.
Washington coached Girls and Boys Varsity Basketball and Baseball in Detroit's Public School League (PSL) for several years. His basketball teams made numerous appearances in the tough PSL playoffs. His teams also won a number of district titles and the Public School League (PSL) Championship.
He has 18 years of baseball coaching experience at Southeastern High School. He was named Detroit's Public School League (PSL) Coach of the Year four times and Region Coach of the Year once. He also coached the second team in PSL history to the state quarterfinals. Washington's baseball teams were state-ranked on numerous occasions and won many conference titles. During one span, the baseball team won 43 straight league games.
Washington played basketball and baseball at Concordia College in Ann Arbor, MI. While at Concordia, he was named All-Conference for two seasons and was captain of the baseball team. He later transferred to and graduated from Oakland University, where he was a member of the baseball team. He was an All-Conference selection on a team that won the Great Lakes Conference Championship.
After his matriculation at OU, Washington played infield for the Detroit Tigers Organization. Washington received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism with a Physical Education Minor from Oakland University and completed his Master of Arts Degree in Sports Administration from Wayne State University. Currently, his other duties include presenting and lecturing for the Volunteer, Administration, and Coaches Program (VAC) at Wayne State University.
He and wife Tanya, his high school sweetheart, have raised three daughters, LaTanya, Akilah, Nakia and niece Ayanna. Washington is now the proud grandfather of granddaughter Kyndall Renee.

Terrance Walker- Assistant Coach

Terrance Walker is beginning his second season as Assistant Men's Basketball Coach. Prior to coaching at Macomb, Walker was a five-sport athlete at Detroit Southeastern high school, where he competed in track, cross country, football, baseball, and four years of varsity basketball. While in high school, Walker earned All City and All State honors in cross country and basketball; reached the Public School League's "Final Four" in baseball; and reached the state regional finals in basketball, where the Jungaleers lost to eventual state champion Detroit Southwestern, which featured future NBA players Jalen Rose and Voshon Lenard. During his senior year, Walker was a part of two record-setting teams. The baseball team's 21 victories and the boys' basketball team's 19 wins both established new school records.
Walker played basketball collegiately at Macomb Community College and Wayne State University. At Macomb, Walker led the team to back-to-back league co-championships and to the State Championship title game his second season. Walker led the Monarchs in assists each season and is still Macomb's all-time assist leader. Macomb recognized Walker's greatness by enshrining him in the school's athletic hall of fame.
Walker continued his collegiate career at Wayne State University, where he led the Tartars (now Warriors) to the 1993-94 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference league title, league tournament championship, and the NCAA Division II "Sweet 16" in Evansville, Indiana. While at Wayne State, Walker was named as a First Team member of the league's All-Defensive team, and he left Wayne State as the school's all-time assist leader, despite playing only two seasons.
After his collegiate career, Walker then pursued a professional career in the Continental Basketball Association by attending training camp with the Grand Rapid (MI) Hoops and Fort Wayne (IN) Fury, before eventually playing in the American Basketball Association with the Detroit Dogs.
Walker is a proud parent and is raising two children, Javolis (15) and Alaysha (15).

Aaron Hardaway- Assistant Coach

Coach Aaron Hardaway returns to Macomb after spending three years as assistant coach at University of Michigan-Dearborn, in which his duties ranged from player recruitment to on-court coaching responsibilities.
Hardaway started his coaching career as an assistant to Coach Henry Washington at Southeastern High School in 1990, where he helped coach Terrance walker and Aaron Williams, both of whom are on the current Macomb coaching staff.
Hardaway followed Coach Washington to Macomb in 1993 and remained his assistant until 2004, when he accepted an offer to coach at University of Michigan-Dearborn, a four year NAIA school.
Hardaway played high school basketball under PSL Hall of Fame Coach Ernest Scott, at Southeastern High School. Hardaway earned All-City and All-State honors following his senior year performance on the court. He went on to play two years at St Mary's College in Orchard Lake, before finishing his career at Oklahoma Christian College in Edmond, Oklahoma, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Communications.
While at Oklahoma Christian, Hardaway's team accumulated a record of 58-13 and was ranked #2 in the Nation in 1982, with an overall record of 33-3. The team was also undefeated in conference play and eventually would play in the NAIA Tournament.
Hardaway was an All-League player his senior year and was named Defensive Player of the Year on his team in 1982 and had three teammates drafted by the NBA in 1983, which no other NAIA school has ever done
Hardaway is happily married to his wife Trina and is employed by the Detroit Medical Center as the Recipient Rights Officer in Psychiatry at Sinai/Grace Hospital.
Matt McLaren- Assistant Coach

Matt McLaren enters his third season as Assistant Coach. Matt competed for Macomb for two seasons under Head Coach Henry Washington prior to becoming an assistant coach.
McLaren completed requirements for an Associate's of Arts Degree in August 2005 and is working toward his bachelor's degree in Education at Wayne State.

Bill Hoover- Assistant Coach

Bill Hoover has been with the Men's Basketball team for nine seasons and will assist with summer camps and basketball operations.
Hoover has been involved in various programs, including 20 seasons of basketball within a nine-year period. His collegiate coaching experience includes stints here at Macomb and Oakland Community College. He has also coached girls' junior varsity at Grosse Pointe North, boys' middle school at Detroit Barbour, and assisted boys' varsity at Detroit East Catholic.
Hoover has also volunteered his time with the girl's varsity team at Grosse Pointe North and boys' varsity team at Detroit Kettering. In addition, Hoover also spent three years running a summer league program with Detroit Eastern that participated in two Detroit Recreation Center Leagues. Hoover has also coach boys' and girls' swim at Detroit Butzel Elementary/Middle School and has ran Summer and Saturday Swim Programs at Detroit Denby, Finney, Northwestern and Southeastern High Schools.
Hoover earned his Bachelor's of Arts Degree in Education from Michigan State University in 1991 and earned his Master's Degree in Sports Administration from Wayne State University in 1997.
Hoover currently is a physical education instructor at Detroit Butzel Elementary/Middle School, where he has been the past twelve years and has also taught mathematics and reading. He is a 17-year veteran of the Detroit Public Schools, where he has taught mathematics, science, and health at Barbour Magnet Middle School and Detroit Durfee Elementary School.
In addition to his teaching career, Hoover currently volunteers on the Advisory Board for the Motor City Youth Initiative, as the Midwest Coordinator for the Black Legends of Professional Basketball. Hoover is also the founder and manager of the historical website detroitpslbasketball.com.
Hoover and wife Amy have been married 13 years and have three children, Olivia, Billy III and Brooke.
