BILL HOOVER

 
 

Bill Hoover has been with the Men's Basketball team for ten seasons and lends his assistance to the summer camps and basketball operations.

Hoover has been involved in various programs, including 20 seasons of basketball within a nine-year period. His collegiate coaching experience includes stints here at Macomb and Oakland Community College. He has also coached girls' junior varsity at Grosse Pointe North, boys' middle school at Detroit Barbour, and assisted boys' varsity at Detroit East Catholic.

Hoover has also volunteered his time with the girl's varsity team at Grosse Pointe North and boys' varsity team at Detroit Kettering. In addition, Hoover also spent three years running a summer league program with Detroit Eastern that participated in two Detroit Recreation Center Leagues.  Hoover has also coach boys' and girls' swim at Detroit Butzel Elementary/Middle School and has ran summer and Saturday Swim Programs at Detroit Denby, Finney, Northwestern as well as Southeastern High Schools.

Hoover earned his Bachelor's of Arts Degree in Education from Michigan State University in 1991 and earned his Master's Degree in Sports Administration from Wayne State University in 1997.  For the last twelve years Hoover has been the physical education instructor at Detroit Butzel Elementary/Middle School and has also taught mathematics and reading. He is a 17-year veteran of the Detroit Public Schools, where he has taught mathematics, science, and health at Barbour Magnet Middle School and Detroit Durfee Elementary School.

In addition to his teaching career, Hoover currently volunteers on the Advisory Board for the Motor City Youth Initiative, as the Midwest Coordinator for the Black Legends of Professional Basketball.  Hoover is also the founder and manager of the historical website detroitpslbasketball.com.


Hoover and wife Amy have been married 13 years and have three children, Olivia, Billy III and Brooke.
