Local award-winning author Richard Bak depicts the prize fighter’s life and the times in which he lived—his childhood in a sharecropper’s cabin in Alabama, his formative years in Detroit and legendary career, service in the Army and his stint as a professional wrestler before retiring from boxing in 1951.
