Macomb Community College has been named a 2014 Military Friendly School by Victory Media Inc., Coraopolis, Pa., for the fifth consecutive year.  The designation honors U.S. colleges, universities and trade schools that rank in the top 20 percent for efforts to embrace military students and their success in the classroom and after graduation.

Macomb Community College provides veterans, reservists and their dependents comprehensive veteran student services that include veteran-related community events, and help with identifying and applying for educational benefits. The college also offers a student organization for veterans, scholarships and links to local, regional, state and federal veterans' information.

“Being a military-friendly institution is important to us,” said Jim Jacobs, president, Macomb Community College.  “Macomb Community College’s faculty and staff recognize the sacrifices that the men and women who serve make, and we are committed to help active-duty service members and veterans succeed in their academic careers and beyond.”

Now in its fifth year, the 2014 list of Military Friendly Schools was compiled through research and a data-driven survey of more than 10,000 schools nationwide approved for Veterans Administration tuition funding. The survey results that comprise the 2014 list were independently tested by Ernst & Young LLP.  Each year schools taking the survey are held to a higher standard than the previous year.

The 1,868 colleges, universities and trade schools on this year’s Military Friendly Schools list exhibit leading practices in the recruitment and retention of students with military experience.  These schools have world-class programs and policies for student support on campus, academic accreditation, credit policies, flexibility and other services to those who served. A searchable online directory is available at www.militaryfriendlyschools.com.

Victory Media is a service-disabled, veteran-owned small business that has been serving the military community since 2001. The company’s data-driven Military Friendly lists are published in its G.I. Jobs, Military Spouse and Vetrepreneur media channels.
