Awarded 2013 Economic Development Partner of the Year Award for actively supporting business and industry training needs

Macomb Community College, located in the metropolitan Detroit area, was awarded the first-ever Economic Development Partner of the Year Award by the Macomb County Planning and Economic Development Department.

Presented during the county’s inaugural Macomb Business Awards event in early February, the award recognizes the college’s long-term collaborative efforts with the county to identify and develop training that supports current and emerging needs of Macomb County employers.  In addition, the county cited the college’s entrepreneurial training programs as being instrumental in helping new businesses begin with a sound foundation.

“Macomb Community College places a special emphasis on connecting education and training to workplace needs,” said Dr. Jim Jacobs, president, Macomb College.  “Macomb works closely with business and industry to leverage strengths, providing individuals with training for sustainable career pathways and employers with the skilled workforce necessary to succeed in the New Economy.”

Annually, Macomb Community College works with more than 500 employers, from small companies to large corporations.  Training is developed with direct input from employers and is customized to meet specific employer needs.  To help students make a successful transition to the workplace, the college provides a range of on-the-job experiences through cooperative education programs, internships, mentoring programs and job shadowing experiences.

In addition to the 2013 Economic Development Partner of the Year award to Macomb Community College, the county recognized four local businesses among 49 nominated in the categories of efficiency, workforce development, diversification and corporate citizenship.
