Canadian Students

Whether or not you intend to cross the border every day or live in the U.S. as an F-1 student while you pursue your academic goals at Macomb, we are here to help you.

If you are moving to the United States

If you plan on moving to the U.S. while you study, please create an admissions account and submit an application for admission. You will be contacted with information to complete the steps to obtain your F1 student visa. Contact the International Student Services Office at f1student@macomb.edu if you have questions. You will need to follow the instructions for Student Still in Home Country. Please note that you can go to the U.S. side of the Canadian/U.S. border for processing instead of an embassy (must have I-20 and proof of paying the I-901 fee).

If you are commuting from Ontario

If you plan to commute every day, the requirements are slightly different.

  • Create an admissions account and submit an application for admission.
  • You will be contacted with information to complete the steps to obtaining your F1 student visa.
  • An I-20 will be created for you on a term by term basis (you can study full time or part time).
  • You will need to follow the instructions for Commuting Canadian Students.
  • Instead of going to the embassy in Canada, students may go to the U.S. side of the Canadian/U.S. border for processing (must have I-20 and proof of paying the I-901 fee).
