Clinton Township – The New York-based arts management firm, Young Concert Artists present pianist Wonny Song in a recital at the Macomb Center for the Performing Arts, in Stage II, Sunday, November 8, at 4 p.m. For tickets call 586.286.2222.
It is never easy for an extraordinary talent to have the chance to be heard just because they are so gifted. The Young Concert Artists (YCA) founded 1961, as a professional non-profit organization, dedicates itself to discovering and launching the careers of exceptional, but unknown, young musicians from all over the world by providing important debuts and performing experience at no cost to the artists.
More than 100 important talents, including Pinchas Zukerman, Emanuel Ax and the Tokyo String Quartet owe their debut to the YCA. As Emanuel Ax notes "Young Concert Artists is the most wonderful start to any musician's life. The young musician needs concert experience and must be able to 'practice' this constantly. This is something that YCA provides in abundance."
Each YCA Artist chosen is a Winner of the Young Concert Artists International Auditions, which differ in an important way from competitions. Each year, the participants represent a variety of instruments and voice and chamber groups. They are competing against a standard of excellence – not each other. There is no specified limit to the number of artists who can win. The Jury members’ only criteria are extraordinary talent, technique, and impact upon the listener.
This years’ YCA series at the Macomb Center include pianist Wonny Song, winner of the 2005 YCA International Auditions, on Sunday, November 8 at 4 p.m., soprano Carolina Ullrich, winner of the 2008/09 YCA International Auditions, on Sunday, January 17 at 4 p.m. and guitarist Robert Blinić, winner of the 2002 YCA International Auditions, Sunday, April 18, at 4 p.m. The recital package is $27; individual tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. All performances are held in Stage II.
As a part of the YCA series, free master classes are offered for young instrumental music students to learn the techniques and interpretations from the YCA professionals. Master classes are free, but pre-registration is required and participation may be limited. To register for a master class, please call 586.286.2044 or visit www.MacombCenter.com/EducationEnrichment/.
