The 6th annual People, Pets & Vets, a free hands-on, interactive educational program designed for children of all ages to learn about animals and proper animal care, will be held 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at Macomb Community College’s Center Campus, in and around E Building.
During the program, children can see and touch a variety of different animals and talk to veterinarians, veterinary technicians and other animal care providers and service groups. They will be able to learn about exotic pets and reptiles, working dogs, therapeutic horseback riding, farm animals and typical house pets. Visitors will also be able to learn about animals and the basics for providing proper animal care, including the importance of grooming, basic veterinary medical care and the seriousness of obesity in pets.
The program will also feature presentations and displays on animal dentistry, ophthalmology, cardiology, anatomy, parasite prevention, dogs with jobs and pet first aid. In addition, the Healthy Pet Surgical Suite will provide an up close look at what takes place in a real spay surgery.
While visitors should leave their pets at home when they visit the event, younger visitors are encouraged to bring any “wounded” Teddy Bears to a special Teddy Bear Clinic, staffed by Michigan State University veterinary students who will help care for, bandage and suture stuffed animals that need attention.
The event is sponsored by the Michigan Veterinary Medicine Association, in conjunction with the Veterinary Technician program at Macomb Community College. Macomb’s Center Campus is located at Garfield & M-59 in Clinton Township.
