Macomb Community College’s veterinary technician program is inviting animal lovers and pet owners from around the region to join their students and faculty for the 8th annual People, Pets and Vets event, Saturday, November 5, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., E Building, Center Campus, Clinton Township.
This annual event, co-sponsored by the Michigan Veterinary Association, is a free hands-on, interactive educational program designed for children of all ages to learn about animals, essential animal care and how to pursue a career as a veterinary professional.
“Every year, this event is an opportunity for our students and faculty to share their passion for the care of animals with the community,” said Lori Renda-Francis, professor and coordinator of the college’s veterinary technician program. “People, Pets and Vets is a great forum to share important information and tips regarding pets and animal care, while also promoting the wonderful work of veterinary professionals across the region.”
The event is an opportunity for families to see and touch a variety of animals and talk to veterinary professionals and other animal care providers. With more than 40 booths on site, families will learn about exotic pets, reptiles, working dogs, therapeutic horseback riding, farm animals and typical house pets.
Presentations will include animal dentistry, ophthalmology, cardiology, anatomy, parasite prevention and pet first aid. A special feature of the event is the Healthy Pet Surgical Suite, sponsored by Macomb’s veterinary technician program students and alumni, which provides an up close look at what takes place in a real spay surgery.
While families should leave there pets at home for this event, children are encouraged to bring sick or injured stuffed animals to the “Teddy Bear Clinic” for special care, including bandaging and suturing.
Macomb Community College’s Center Campus is located at Garfield and Hall (M-59) roads in Clinton Township. For more information, contact Lori Renda-Francis at 586.286.2096 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
