Release Date:
October 30, 2009

Grammy-Nominated Joan Osborne performs together with gospel blues band The Holmes Brothers and Mississippi heartland singer Paul Thorn in a transformative evening of jazz and blues at the Macomb Center for the Performing Arts Saturday, November 7, at 8 p.m.  For tickets call 586.286.2222.

JOAN OSBORNE was introduced to mainstream audiences with the single "One of Us" from her major label debut Relish, in 1995. It became a massive MTV and radio smash hit holding the number one spot on the U.S. singles charts for two weeks while the album sold three million copies. Then came five Grammy® nominations, a featured slot in the 1997 Lilith Fair tour and performances with such notables as Taj Mahal, Luciano Pavarotti, Spearhead, Bob Dylan, The Dead, The Dixie Chicks, Stevie Wonder, Melissa Etheridge, and Bob Dylan.

Her performance in the award-winning documentary Standing in the Shadows of Motown led to the 2007 release, Breakfast in Bed and more critical acclaim - the Boston Globe praised her "honey-whiskey voice and bare-it-all style," and Billboard "the inherent pathos of her voice." In her latest CD, Little Wild One, Osborne comes back to her soulful rock roots, reuniting her Grammy® All-Star team of Rick Chertoff and Rob Hyman and Eric Bazilian of The Hooters.

Called ". . . the undisputed masters of blues-based American roots music” by the Chicago Tribune, THE HOLMES BROTHERS have worked virtually non-stop since their debut on Rounder in 1979.  The spine-tingling harmonies, boundless energy and telepathic musicianship of THE HOLMES BROTHERS mix Saturday night’s roadhouse rock with the gospel fervor and harmonies of Sunday’s church service.

Rooted in blues and gospel, THE HOLMES BROTHERS’ sound is all their own.  They’ve recorded with Van Morrison, Peter Gabriel, Odetta, Phoebe Snow, Willie Nelson, Rosanne Cash, Levon Helm and Joan Osborne, and have performed all over the world.  Now The Holmes Brothers return with State Of Grace, produced by Craig Street.  Joined by a number of talented friends on vocals, including Levon Helm, Rosanna Cash and Joan Osborne, they expertly reinvent songs by writers as diverse as John Fogerty, Cheap Trick, Hank Williams, Sr. and Lyle Lovett.

Former professional prize fighter and son of a Pentecostal preacher from Tupelo, Mississippi, PAUL THORN creates music that speaks of the sacred and the profane. He released his debut recording Hammer and Nail in 1997, followed by Ain’t Love Strange and the critically acclaimed Mission Temple Fireworks Stand, a quirky collection of songs about people on the byways of backwater South.  His newest release A Long Way from Tupelo, which reached number seven in the Billboard’s Top Heatseekers chart, prompted the San Francisco Chronicle to write "The real deal comes along infrequently these days. . .word of a record this good will spread."  And indeed it has.  A Long Way from Tupelo, is a collection of songs that illustrates Thorn’s versatility and authentic connection to the music of the Mississippi heartland: blues, country, gospel, rhythm and blues, and rock ‘n’ roll.
