Macomb County’s best singers are invited to try to become the Macomb Teen Idol in February at Macomb Community College.
Contestants in the Feb. 28 event will need to prepare a 16-bar portion of a song which they will sing a cappella in the first round, which runs 8 a.m. - noon. The top 40 performers, as determined by the competition’s three judges will advance to the second round of the competition, to be held that evening in K Building at Macomb’s South Campus in Warren, beginning at 7 p.m.. They will sing the 16-bar song from the morning round, again a cappella. Voting for the most popular contestants will occur during an intermission break after the 40 competitors have performed. Following the voting, the five finalists will compete in the final round of the competition, each performing an whole song each, which need not be the same as the one sung in the first or second rounds.
The judges for the event will be Lindsey Tycholiz, Miss Michigan USA and Macomb alumnus; Don Ritzenhein, provost at Macomb; and Todd Moses, a music school teacher and member of InVoice, an ensemble comprised of Macomb alumni.
Registration for the competition begins Feb. 1. There is no charge to register, and all contestants must be between ages 15-18 as of Dec. 1, 2008.
There are three cash prizes, $300-$200-$100 with plaques, voted on by the three judges and a popular prize, plaque only, voted on by the audience.
Admission to the night performance is $5 a person.
