Detroit Symphony Orchestra to Perform Free Concert at Macomb Center for the Performing Arts on June 8

The Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) is bringing a special evening of music to Macomb County, presenting a free concert on Wed., June 8, 7:30 p.m., at the Macomb Center of Performing Arts, a community enrichment program of Macomb Community College.  DSO Music Director Leonard Slatkin will conduct, leading the orchestra in a program designed to appeal to those new to classical music, as well as enthusiasts.

The DSO will be performing the works of Bach, Beethoven, Schubert and Tchaikovsky. In addition, they will present Benjamin Britten’s The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra, a composition that showcases the tone colors and capacities of the various sections of the orchestra.  Macomb Community College Professor Philip Barrons will join the orchestra on stage to narrate.

Tickets to the concert are free.  Seating is reserved, and each order is limited to four tickets.  Tickets may be picked up at the Macomb Center Box Office  Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. (excluding  Memorial Day, Monday, May 31); and Friday, Noon – 6 p.m.  Tickets may also be ordered by phone at 586.286.2222.  The Macomb Center is located on Macomb Community College’s Center Campus, corner of Hall and Garfield roads, Clinton Township.
