Macomb Community College Trustees Sworn In, Board Appoints Officers

On January 20, the Macomb Community College Board of Trustees elected new officers and held the swearing-in ceremony for three trustees re-elected to the seven-person board in the November 2008 election.

Board members elected as officers were:  Chair – Nancy Falcone, Washington Township; Vice chair – Roseanne DiMaria, Eastpointe; Secretary – Connie Bolanowski, Washington Township; and Treasurer – James F. Kelly, Eastpointe. 

After being sworn in to begin a new six-year term on the board by Macomb County Clerk Carmella Sabaugh, Nancy Falcone was re-elected as the chair of Macomb Community College’s Board of Trustees. Falcone has served as the board’s chair since 2005 and served as the board’s secretary her first two years after election to the board for a term beginning in 2003. She is a former Michigan Department of State employee and is currently on the Region One staff of the International UAW, serving in a dual assignment as a community action program representative and a labor representative. She is also on the board of directors for the Macomb/ St. Clair Workforce Development Board.

Roseanne DiMaria, who has served on the college’s board of trustees since 1999, was elected as the board’s vice chair, a position she has held since 2007. She previously served for two years as the board’s treasurer. She is a retired surgical technician and is married to Macomb County Commissioner Phil DiMaria.

Connie Bolanowski was re-elected as the board’s secretary, a position she has held since 2003. Bolanowski was also sworn in to a new six-year term by Sabaugh. She is a retired office administrator and legal secretary who is involved with a number of community organizations and charitable activities, including the Starkweather Art and Cultural Society, Jenny Lind Club of Michigan, Assistance League of Southeast Michigan and as a hospital volunteer.

James F. Kelly was elected to serve as the board’s treasurer. Kelly has been a member of the board since 2005. A former mayor and city council member for the City of Eastpointe, Kelly is the president and CEO of Travelers Aid Society.

During the board’s Jan. 20 meeting, Sabaugh also swore in Frank DeSantis (Sterling Heights), who has served on the college’s board since 1997, to a new six-year term. He serves along with trustees Christine Bonkowski (Clinton Township) and Joseph DeSantis (Sterling Heights).

The Macomb Community College’s Board of Trustees is composed of seven members who are selected through a nonpartisan, countywide election and serve six-year terms without compensation. The board approves budgets, develops policies in accordance with educational needs, and serves as a direct link between the college and the community.
