Macomb Building Classes Certified For State Exam

Release Date:
August 31, 2009

Two Macomb Community College classes have been certified by the Michigan Dept. of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth to meet the educational requirements for those seeking to take the residential builder’s license state examination.

The two classes, Blueprint & Math – Residential and Construction Law & Contract Administration, are both 15-week, two credit hour classes that are offered as part of the college’s Applied Technology program. By taking the two classes, a student will meet the 60-hour state requirement and be able to take the residential builder’s exam. The pre-licensure education requirement was created by the state in December 2007.

The classes can be taken individually and can be applied toward an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Building Construction Technology at Macomb. Financial aid may be available for students who qualify. Limited space may still be available in the Construction Law & Contract Administration class which begins Sept. 10. The classes will also be offered in the Winter 2010 term, which begins in January.
