Korean War veterans, as well as all veterans, those who currently serve in the military and community members are invited to a special Tribute to Service on Saturday, May 7 at 2 p.m. at the Lorenzo Cultural Center on Macomb Community College’s Center Campus in Clinton Township. The tribute is the final event in The 1950s: Affluence and Anxiety in the Atomic Age, a program series at the cultural center that focused on the key people and events of that decade.
The program features a welcome by Macomb Community College President Jim Jacobs and keynote address by Colonel William Sheehy, project manager, Heavy Brigade Combat Team, TACOM Life Cycle Management Command. Sheehy was a platoon leader in airborne invasions of Panama, Operation Just Cause and Desert Shield/Storm, and a field team leader of an IED (improvised explosion device) task force in Iraq.
The tribute also features the 338th Army band and the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 154, Color Guard.
The May 7 event also provides the last opportunity to view exhibits at the cultural center of The 1950s program, which includes a special exhibit about the Korean War.
While the tribute and admission to the cultural center are free, advance registration is required. Register by calling 586.445.7204 or going online to communityrelations@macomb.edu.
