President's Granddaughter Susan Eisenhower to Speak at Lorenzo Cultural Center

She knew him as grandpa, but the rest of the world called him President Eisenhower.  Susan Eisenhower offers her personal perspective on Ike and his presidency, with special emphasis on America’s relationship with Russia in the 1950s and Cold War fears in The Russians are Coming! Eisenhower and the Cold War on May 5 at 7 p.m. at the Lorenzo Cultural Center on Macomb Community College’s Center Campus in Clinton Township.  Her presentation is one of the final presentations in the cultural center’s current program series, The 1950s: Affluence and Anxiety in the Atomic Age, with exhibits open through May 7.

A strategist, author and expert on international security and relations between the Russian Federation and the United States, Eisenhower is a frequent television news guest and distinguished lecturer.  She has written extensively on nuclear and space issues and has authored three books: Breaking Free, Mrs. Ike and Partners in Space: US-Russian Cooperation After the Cold War.  Eisenhower’s appointment in 2010 to the Commission on America’s Nuclear Future is the third time in as many administrations that she has served on blue-ribbon panels related to nuclear issues.
