Program Goals and Outcomes
The goal of the Macomb Community College Occupational Therapy Assistant program is to graduate occupational therapy assistants who:
1. Demonstrate academic and clinical proficiency at an entry level in occupational
therapy knowledge, intervention techniques and skills.
2. Demonstrate integration of basic social and biological sciences, OT frames of
reference and clinical skills to become a critical thinker and apply this core of
knowledge to individual patients and clients.
3. Qualify to sit for the National Certification Examination administered by the NBCOT.
4. Qualify for state licensure required under law by the State of Michigan.
5. Gain immediate entry into employment opportunities as an entry-level COTA.
6. Become advocates for the profession and become active in local, state and
national occupational therapy organizations.
7. Engage in continuing education opportunities for Certified Occupational Therapy
Assistants.
8. Take an active part in influencing, supporting, and guiding the future growth and
development of the Macomb Community College OTA program.
In partnership with the student, the OTA faculty at Macomb Community College is
committed to helping each student accomplish these goals. As the student transitions
through the program, the student will assume responsibility for his/her own learning
and strive towards the accomplishment and perfecting of these goals.

(NBCOT) for Academic Years 2006, 2007 and 2008
