Career Opportunities

If you enjoy working in a medical environment where your technical expertise will be matched by a real need for human relations skills, then a career in medical assisting may be what you are looking for. The employment opportunities are excellent.

The 2008-9 edition of the Occupational Outlook Handbook recently published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), U.S. Department of Labor, includes promising figures about the growing demand for medical assistants to grow faster than the average for all occupations through the 2006-2016 years as the health service industry expands from technological advances in medicine and a growing aging population.  Further employment and job outlook can be located at their website:  http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos164.htm

Many medical assistants also learn that the versatility of their jobs can lead down many roads, creating job opportunities they never considered. Medical assistants may be able to advance to office manager or become ward clerks, medical record clerks, phlebotomists, patient care technicians, emergency technicians  or EKG technicians. Medical assistants may qualify for a wide variety of administrative support occupations or may teach medical assistants.
