CLINICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGY

Macomb Community College now offers a degree Clinical Laboratory Technology!

Macomb Community College’s Clinical Laboratory Technology Program is 21 consecutive months in length (August through May of each year) with clinical laboratory classes being taught at Center Campus. Additionally, students must complete an intense 16-week clinical rotation during the last semester of the program, which will provide a 32-40 hour per week practical training experience at an affiliated healthcare facility.  An Associate of Applied Science degree is awarded after completion of the CLT program.

Clinical Lab Technicians play an important role in the detection and monitoring of diseases, and are a vital part of every patient’s health-care team. They perform laboratory tests for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. They need to be accurate, pay close attention to detail, have good analytical and problem solving skills, work well under pressure, and have good computer skills. Most techs work in hospitals, doctor’s offices, medical laboratories, or research and testing laboratories.

To be considered for admission in the Clinical Laboratory Technology program, you must have the required documents on file with the Center Campus Enrollment Office by the deadline date specified in the selective admissions procedures. Classes begin in August each year, and the deadline date is well in advance of these dates. (Enrollment is limited to 15 students each year.)

Required documents include a completed admission application form, and "official" high school and college transcripts. In addition, testing at Macomb Community College must also be completed prior to the deadline date.

See selective admissions requirements for further information.

CAREER APPLICATIONS

The Clinical Laboratory Technology curriculum is designed to prepare students to become Clinical Laboratory Technicians (CLT) or Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLT). They aid in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of disease and accomplish this through specific tasks, including inoculating culture media, performing microscopic evaluation of cells, and operating high-tech equipment. CLTs perform routine tests in the areas of blood banking, chemistry, hematology, immunology, microbiology and urinalysis – an experienced CLT will be familiar with and may work in any one or all of these areas.

The CLTA Program is accredited by NAACLS at:
