  1. General Education: University-wide General Education requirements apply to all undergraduate students seeking a baccalaureate degree from Wayne State University. Since the various Colleges and Schools may impose additional College or School requirements and/or specify particular courses which their students must elect in fulfilling the University-wide requirements it is essential that transfer students follow an official advising plan provided by the University for their chosen field of study. This degree program does not vary form the University wide requirements.

  2. Competency Requirements: Students are required to demonstrate competence in 7 key college survival skills. They are: Basic Composition; Intermediate Composition; English Proficiency (by exam at WSU only); Mathematics; Oral Communication; Computer Literacy; and Critical Thinking. Competency requirements should be met early in a baccalaureate degree program either by successfully passing a Wayne State University Competency Examination or by successfully completing a college course that has been designated to satisfy the competency. Macomb Community College students can satisfy all of the Wayne State competencies through designated Macomb courses. These courses are noted in the individual transfer advising plans provided by Wayne State for Macomb transfer students. The WSU exams can be taken prior to your transfer to the University.

  3. Group Requirements: In order to ensure a broad based general education, the University has established 8 groups or areas of study to be represented in any WSU degree program. These groups are as follows: American Society and Institutions; Foreign Culture; Historical Studies; Life Sciences; Philosophy and Letters; Physical Sciences; Social Sciences; and The Visual and Performing Arts. To satisfy the Group Requirements, students will be introduced to materials drawn from the natural sciences, the social sciences, historical studies, foreign culture and the humanities.
