NO WORKER LEFT BEHIND (NWLB) - ADMISSION & REGISTRATION

7 Easy Steps:

Step 1: Visit your local NWLB office

No Worker Left Behind is a State of Michigan and Federal program.  You should visit a local Michigan Works! or other certified NWLB agency to visit with a case worker and discuss your skill interests and needs.  He or she will review with you a list of programs that are offered as part of the NWLB program, including those offered at Macomb Community College.  If you decide to learn more about a Macomb program, you can start the next steps of the process.

Step 2: Admission to Macomb Community College

Once you’ve decided to enroll in one of the Macomb approved programs, you should complete the admissions process next. Apply online or come to the Enrollment OfficeIf you have attended other college you may submit official transcript(s).

For questions regarding the admissions process, please contact us at 586.445.7003.

Step 3: Obtain Financial Aid

Participants in NWLB may be eligible for financial aid.  If you are eligible, you must first obtain financial aid from the college.  Within funding limits, your NWLB agency may then provide additional financial aid if you are eligible for more.

  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The fastest and most accurate way to file is online. You will be asked to enter a Federal school code to release the information to the school you plan to attend. Macomb Community College’s federal school code is 008906. If you need help completing the FAFSA online, you can contact the federal customer service number at 1-800-433-3243.
  • The Macomb Community College Financial Aid Office will determine your eligibility for financial aid, based on the results of the FAFSA. Once you have been notified of your financial aid eligibility (either by receiving a financial aid award letter or a denial letter), you should take this notification to your Michigan Works! case worker. The case worker will need this information to determine how much funding Michigan Works! can provide to you.
  • If you have questions about the financial aid process, you can contact the Macomb Community College Financial Aid Office. You can also review the financial aid eligibility requirements.

Step 4: Assess your college-ready skills

As a new student to Macomb you will need to complete the Placement Test to help determine your college-ready skills in mathematics, reading, and English (writing). The results will be utilized to recommend courses appropriate for your skill level.  Some courses require a minimum test score on one or more of the tests in order to enroll, or that you take lower-level courses in order to provide you with the necessary skills for success.  If you have not been to school for awhile and want to brush up on your reading, math, and writing skills, please explore our Placement Testing Resources page.

Step 5: Get ready to register for classes

Coming to college can be a confusing experience for anyone.  To help you learn the in’s and out’s of attending college, you will need to attend a new student orientation.  Contact our NWLB office to schedule an orientation session.  As part of your orientation process, you will become familiar with the college, receive help with interpreting your placement testing scores, discuss the registration process, and assistance with the selection of courses.  Any necessary Michigan Works! or other NWLB forms need to be brought to the NWLB Coordinator at Macomb to be completed.

Step 6: Register for classes

During orientation you’ll learn how to register for classes.  Most students register online or by phone, although you can also register in person.  All this will be explained during the orientation session.

Step 7: Payment

Your tuition and fees can be paid at the time of registration or by the payment due date.

Payment is made by using the Michigan Works! credit card (Comp card) or by Authorization for Billing form.  This credit card or form must come from your Michigan Works! caseworker.  Please pay particular attention to the due date for tuition and fees.  It is your responsibility to make sure your NWLB/Michigan Works! payment is processed. Payment from NWLB programs must be completed in a timely manner.  This guarantees the student will not be deregistered (dropped) from all classes. If you have any questions regarding payment or your voucher you can contact the Financial Services Office at Macomb Community College.
