What is America Reads?

If you are a Macomb Community College student that is interested in early childhood development or elementary education, the America Reads volunteer program is an opportunity to tutor in local elementary schools.

Since many teacher education programs require students to have certifiable experience working with children in a non-custodial setting, the America Reads program is an ideal way for you to meet this requirement. Each participating school or district trains the volunteers to assist with their reading and literacy development curriculum.

America Reads Informational Meeting

The meeting date will be posted as soon as it is determined.

Please Note: The minimum commitment for “America Reads” is one semester at two hours per week. Volunteer hours are documented and you will receive recognition for your contributions.

Interviewing and placement will take place after the presentation. Please remember to bring a copy of your resume along with your social security card and driver’s license.
