What is NAVTA?
NAVTA stands for the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America. It provides Licensed Veterinary Technicians and Veterinary Technology students with valuable information about the Veterinary Profession. This association prints a publication, The NAVTA Journal, filled with new and innovating advances in veterinary medicine.
The purpose of the Student Chapter of NAVTA is to promote the profession of Veterinary Technology and serve the community by encouraging the human animal bond.
Macomb’s Student Chapter of NAVTA
We encourage all of our students to join and participate in our student chapter of the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (SCNAVTA).
Every spring we hold officer elections where the students vote in a President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Member at Large.
The officers’ responsibilities include organizing fundraisers and activities, holding regular meetings to discuss plans, keeping a budget of class funds, and of course motivating the rest of the class and encouraging participation. Our goal is to hold one fundraiser and one activity per semester.
Some of the fundraisers the students have sponsored in the past are: pizza kit sales, pet bandana sales, bottle drives, raffles, cutest pet picture contests, dog washes, and clothing sales.
Through fundraisers we have been able to donate to a number of organizations including the AAHA Helping Pets Fund, The Detroit Zoological Society, Macomb County Animal Shelter, as well as purchasing supplies to benefit the animals in our program. Also with some of the money raised the students have been able to host a variety of activities such as summer picnics, welcome back parties in the fall, and graduation parties.
The students of the Macomb Community College student chapter of NAVTA work very hard to be involved and make a difference in the veterinary community.
