To become a Licensed Veterinary Technician in the state of Michigan you must:
1. Graduate from AVMA approved program for training Veterinary Technicians
2. Submit an application and fee by the deadline, to the Department of Community Health, Bureau of Health Professionals. This includes fingerprinting and criminal background check at an approved fingerprinting location.
3. Take and pass the PES National & Michigan Practical Examinations
Results are reported approximately 8-10 weeks following the examination date.
**Beginning in 2010, the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE) will be administered in a computerized format. There will be 3 examination windows each year in which you may take the VTNE. More detailed information about the Computer Based VTNE is available at http://www.aavsb.org. You will still be required to apply for your Michigan license before being eligible to take the VTNE.
