Program Goals and Outcomes

The goal of the Macomb Community College Occupational Therapy Assistant program is to graduate occupational therapy assistants who:

1. Demonstrates academically and clinically proficiency at an entry level in occupational

therapy knowledge, intervention techniques and skills.

2. Demonstrates integration of basic social and biological sciences, OT frames of

reference and clinical skills to become a critical thinker and apply this core of

knowledge to individual patients and clients.

3. Qualifies to sit for the National Certification Examination administered by the NBCOT.

4. Qualifies for state licensure required under law by the State of Michigan.

5. Will gain immediate entry into employment opportunities as an entry-level COTA.

6. Will become advocates for the profession and become active in local, state and

national occupational therapy organizations.

7. Will engage in continuing education opportunities for Certified Occupational Therapy

Assistants.

8. Will take an active part in influencing, supporting, and guiding the future growth and

development of the Macomb Community College OTA program.

In partnership with the student, the OTA faculty at Macomb Community College is

committed to helping each student accomplish these goals. As the student transitions

through the program, the student will assume responsibility for his/her own learning

and strive towards the accomplishment and perfecting of these goals.

Graduate Outcomes on the National Board for Certification of Occupational Therapy

(NBCOT) for Academic Years 2008, 2009 and 2010.
