What is Nursing?

According to the American Nurses Association, nursing is the "protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, communities, and populations."  Furthermore, the nursing faculty at Macomb, emphasize in the nursing program philosophy statement that "nursing is a profession guided by science, theory, evidence-based practice, a code of ethics, and the art of caring to treat human responses to health and illness.  It is a commitment to professional values and lifelong learning.  Click on Philosophy to learn more.
