The Nursing Program at Macomb

Macomb's Associate of Applied Science Degree in Nursing teaches basic nursing skills, knowledge, and values to prepare you as a professional registered nurse (RN).  The program consists of liberal arts and nursing courses that include classroom, laboratory, Human Patient Simulator, and clinical experiences.  Much of the program's instruction is transferable to many four-year nursing programs offering Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degrees.

Instruction in the program includes:

  • Basic nursing care of adults and children
  • Professional responsibilities of RNs
  • Patient teaching
  • Communication skills
  • Nursing process

After completing the specified two-year sequence, you are eligible to apply to the State Board of Nursing to take the licensing exam to become a registered nurse.  Macomb graduates have a high rate of success passing the licensing exam.

If you intend to earn the Associate in Applied Science degree and transfer to a four-year institution, you should see a member of Macomb's Counseling Department, or a counselor at the transfer institution, as soon as possible.  For more information or for an appointment call 586.286.2228.
