Applications Professionals are knowledge based workers who use desktop computing applications, such as Microsoft Office programs, as a vital part of their job functions. Today's knowledge workers need to know how to transform data into useful information that enhances productivity in the workplace. They use standard packages of software (such as Microsoft Office programs) to extract knowledge from an organization’s data and to manage the organizational data. Content Management software (such as Microsoft SharePoint), is used to facilitate worker collaboration, business workflows, and document storage and retrieval. The use of these software packages can become very complex – often these uses of software require extensive training to ensure proper use of the software.
This program emphasizes software applications and communication skills required in business. The program focus is on developing expert-level application skills with special emphasis on enhancing critical thinking and decision-making capabilities while being sufficiently prepared for professional certification (Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS)). In addition to becoming proficient in the use of software applications, the program also emphasizes the development of effective communications skills so important in business today.
