Macomb's Fire Academy is offered as a ten-week (full-time) or thirty-five week (part-time) course utilizing the State of Michigan Office of Firefighter Training curriculum. The Basic Academy includes certification in live fire training, confined space rescue, emergency egress, water rescue, vehicle extrication, basic rope rescue, and vehicle operation. Successful completion also earns a state Firefighter I & II certification which is a hiring requirement by municipalities.
Pre-Requisites
- At least 18 years of age
- High school graduate or GED
- GPA 2.0 or higher
- Complete physical examination
- COMPASS reading comprehension exam. Test dates will be given at time of registration.
- Successfully pass the Michigan Municipal League physical agility test. Test date will be given at the time of registration.
A $500 deposit is required at time of registration. Registration is scheduled on site at Macomb's East Campus. Payment by check, money order, or credit card is accepted.
