What is the job outlook for this profession?
As mediation and arbitration continue to grow in popularity and new programs are initiated, more and more job opportunities are created that require training in conflict resolution. Average Hourly Rate: Variable for government, business and industry positions. Growth Rate: 11% from 2006-2016 (U.S. Dept. of Labor)
How much will it cost for the entire program?
Based on a minimum of 160 contact hours, the cost of the seven required classes would be $4135.
How much money will I have to pay for books?
All books and materials are included in the course fee.
Is financial aid available?
Traditional federal and state financial aid is not available for Continuing Education programs. The state may have job training programs administered by Michigan Works that may cover the cost of this program.
Does Macomb College provide job placement?
Macomb does not provide job placement. Our Career Services department does specialize in assisting you in your job search. Career Services is located at Center Campus G102, or South Campus S147 or call 586.445.7321.
Will I earn a certificate? Is it a national or state recognized certificate?
The Master Conflict Resolution Specialist Certificate is awarded by Macomb Community College’s Center for Continuing Education upon the student’s successful completion of Sections 1-7 (160 hours). This program includes Michigan State Court Administrative Office (SCAO) MCR 2.411 and 3.216 approved training courses.
Do I need to fulfill any requirements prior to signing up for this/these classes?
There are no requirements to begin the program other than a high school diploma or GED. There is a place for everyone in the world of mediation & arbitration. Whether you are in the legal field, business, counseling, enter/re-entering the work force or simply looking for a career change, this training is for you. People from all backgrounds and skill levels interested in building life skills and/or professional development should attend the free career night workshop to determine if this program is right for you.
I have already taken mediation classes elsewhere. Can I transfer to Macomb College’s Program?
To satisfy course prerequisites or to place out of a class, relevant experience/ training may be considered. Contact the ADRC for qualifications 810-750-9400.
What are the required core classes in the program?
The required classes are Basic Mediation, General Civil Mediation. Michigan General Law, Domestic Relations Mediation, Domestic Violence Screening, Arbitration, and Building Your Own Practice.
Is there an internship requirement for the Master Conflict Resolution Specialist certificate?
Presently there are no formal certification requirements for Michigan mediators. However, to be placed on court rosters, there are two Michigan Court Ruling requirements that must be met to be able to mediate in both domestic and general civil mediation cases. The requirements for each MCR are: 1) 40 hours of mediation experience 2) observe two mediations 3) conduct a supervised mediation

Faith-based Community & Family Mediation and Eldercare Mediation.
Do I have to take the classes in a certain order?
Classes are scheduled in a recommended sequence. If you are unable to take them in sequence, please contact ADRC at (810) 750-9400.
How long will it take to complete this program?
The program can be completed in one 4-month term.
What types of jobs or employment opportunities are available?
This is a professional development and skills building program. Successful completion will equip you with the tools necessary to be a positive neutral to facilitate, mediate or arbitrate conflict in private practice, national panels, court rosters, or professional environment.
