FIRE ACADEMY

MACOMB FIRE ACADEMY

Macomb's Fire Academy is offered as a ten-week (full-time) or thirty-five week (part-time) course utilizing the State of Michigan Office of Firefighter Training curriculum. The Basic Academy includes certification in live fire training, confined space rescue, emergency egress, water rescue, vehicle extrication, basic rope rescue, and vehicle operation. Successful completion also earns a state Firefighter I & II certification which is a hiring requirement by municipalities.

Pre-Requisites

  • At least 18 years of age
  • High school graduate or GED
  • GPA 2.0 or higher 
  • Complete physical examination
  • COMPASS reading comprehension exam.  Test dates will be given at time of registration.
  • Successfully pass the Michigan Municipal League physical agility test.  Test date will be given at the time of registration.

A $500 deposit is required at time of registration.  Registration is scheduled on site at Macomb's East Campus.  Payment by check, money order, or credit card is accepted.

FULL-TIME ACADEMY

The full-time Fire Academy meets 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday for a total of 10 weeks.

The Spring Fire Academy begins the first week of March each year concluding in mid-May.

The Fall Fire Academy begins the first week of September ending mid-November.

PART-TIME ACADEMY

Macomb's part-time Fire Academy meets Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm plus 2 - 4 Saturdays each month from 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. 

The part-time academy is a 35 week program starting the first week of September and concluding in mid-May.

REGISTRATION

Spring Full-Time Registration for the Spring 2010 Academy opens at 9:00 am on December 2, 2009 on site at East Campus.

Fall Full-Time  Registration opens at  9:00 am on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 on site at East Campus.

Part-Time Academy  Registration opens at  9:00 am on Thursday June 4, 2009 on site at East Campus
