Macomb Offers Two Choices

Macomb offers two choices for the amount of time you need to complete our Basic EMT and Paramedic programs.

Traditional Semesters

Basic EMT Program—In one semester students can complete the requirements for the Basic EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) program. Paramedic Program—The Paramedic core curriculum requires three semesters, typically starting in the fall and finishing in the summer.

Basic EMT and Paramedic Academies

Basic EMT Academy—The Academy runs approximately 8 weeks, about one-half the time it would take to complete the traditional college semester program. The curriculum is identical to the traditional program but delivered in an academy style— eight hours per day, five days per week. Paramedic Academy—The Paramedic Academy runs 25 weeks; about one-half the time it would take to complete the traditional college semester program. The curriculum is identical to the traditional program but delivered in an academy style— eight hours per day, five days per week.

Two Associate’s Degrees—

EMT/Paramedic and

Paramedic/Firefighter Specialties

Macomb County’s fire departments and EMS agencies are striving for qualified entry-level applicants, and Macomb Community College is meeting their needs by providing two associate’s degree programs. The Paramedic/Firefighter specialty has been endorsed by the Macomb County Fire Chiefs Association, and will provide an advantage to the graduate in securing employment at area EMS/FD agencies. Virtually every fire department and EMS provider and hospital in Macomb County participates with our program. These facilities serve as advisory board members and/or as clinical mentoring sites.

Two Certificate Programs—

Basic EMT and Paramedic

Macomb also offers the EMT and Paramedic curriculum as a “stand-alone” program for those wishing to receive a certificate enabling them to take the EMT and Paramedic state licensing examinations. The program exceeds the requirements for accreditation by the Michigan Department of Consumer and Industry Services as well as national standards.

 EMT Classroom

Basic EMT

Student’s can complete the requirements for the Basic EMT and become eligible for the National Registry (NR) Basic EMT certification exam.
