The eligibility rules and procedures for participating in this program are administered by MCOLES. Complete information on program and test dates along with an application for the RPTE programs may be obtained online with the link provided.  Below are some of the FAQ's submitted by our students.

How do I register for the full program or testing?
MCOLES web site, will provide information for testing approval. Following approval, register with Program Director Larry West, at 586.498.4065 for testing at Macomb College.
What is the deadline for registering?
The deadline is ten full business days prior to start of the program.
When do I have to pay the tuition?
Payment is required with registration.
What is the dress code for full program and testing?
Dress comfortably, with recommended collared shirts, long sleeves, and long pants. Candidates must dress in a manner that is discrete and will not distract other candidates. A cap with a bill is mandatory for the Firearms Assessment.
What training can I expect during the full program?
Reviews and updates are done in preparation for the Licensing Exam and Firearms Assessment. Daily lectures concerning criminal and motor vehicle laws, First Aid and CPR updates, and familiarization with weapons are offered.
What do I need to bring to the full program?
Class materials such as notebooks and writing instruments are provided.
Do I get training during the firearms testing?
Prior to your firearms testing, safety discussions on the use of the shotgun and rifle and limited shooting practice with the pistol, are the done. Come prepared to test your skills.
How long is the firearms assessment and the written exam?
A group of 15-20 shooters will take approximately 8 hours or more for test completion, depending on their shooting proficiency. A maximum 3-hour is allowed for the written exam.
Are breaks provided during the testing?
No scheduled lunch or breaks are provided. Their will be short breaks during the Firearms Assessment. No one will be excused during the written exam.
When will I get the results of the tests?
Immediate results are determined at completion of the Firearms Assessment. Allow approximately two weeks for MCOLES Licensing exam results.
May I bring my own weapon and ammunition?
Yes. You may bring your own weapon with the Program Director's approval, but we advise that you use Macomb College's shotguns/patrol rifles. Macomb College provides 9mm; .40, .45, .223 calibers and 12 gage ammunition. The Program Director must approve ammunition other than listed prior to testing.
Do I need to bring my own eye / ear protection and gun belt / holster?
No. You may bring your own or use those provided by Macomb College.
If I am coming to for a re-test do I need to attend both test days?
No. You only need to attend the test you are retaking
