How much will it cost for the entire program?
Tuition for the program is $1,295, but the total cost for the program (including uniform, text book, physical, etc.) is approximately $1,748.50.
Is financial aid available?
Federal Financial Aid is not available for Continuing Education programs. However, this program is eligible for Michigan Works funds. Call your local MW site to learn how to qualify or go to http://www.mycareereducation.org.
Does Macomb provide job placement?
We have an Occupational Coordinator who will act as your liaison, if needed, with Career Services. Our Career Services department does specialize in assisting you in your job search. Career Services is located at Center Campus G102, or South Campus S147, 586.445.7321.
Will I earn a certificate? Is it a National or State recognized certificate?
You will receive a Macomb CCE Certificate indicating that you have successfully completed our program. You will have the knowledge you need to take the Michigan Nurse Aide Competency evaluation Test. This is required to receive the CNA.
Do I need to fulfill any requirements prior to signing up for these classes?
(1) Attend a mandatory 2-hour orientation. These are scheduled about 6 times per year. Call 586-498-4000 for the next available dates.
(2)Take and pass the ACT Workkeys® Assessment test or submit scores that are less than 3 years old, or transcripts from a college or university. Call 586.498.4130 to schedule an appointment.
(3)Take a health physical, TB skin test and drug test either from your own doctor or through Concentra Health Centers
(4)Students will also meet identified background/criminal checks through campus police
How many classes make up this program?
There is only one class totaling 128 hours. There are 3 program components: classroom lecture, classroom laboratory and clinical placement in a skilled long-term care nursing facility.
How long will it take to complete this program?
The program may be completed in 5 ½ weeks for day classes or 8 weeks for night classes.
When and where do classes meet?
Classes are scheduled every 8 weeks at the south campus C building in Warren. Daytime classes run Mon – Thur, 9:00 am – 3:30 pm (7:30 am – 2:00 pm for clinical). Evening classes run Mon – Thur 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm.
Are grades/tests given?
Written quizzes must be passed at 80% and skill-based tests must be passed at 100%.
What if I miss a class?
You will be required to make up the work.
Do I need a Uniform?
Yes, uniforms must be worn at the clinical site. Please purchase royal blue scrubs (top and bottom), white nursing shoes or tennis shoes. Socks must be worn and a white turtleneck or sweater is optional. Name tags must be worn.
Tell me more about the Clinical placement...
After you have completed the classroom and laboratory successfully, you will meet with your instructor at the clinical site for practicing your new skills with real nursing home residents.
Can I still do the internship if I do not pass the classes?
No, you must pass all of the classes to be granted an internship.
