Macomb College's Real Time Court Reporting and Captioning program : Is recognized by the Department of Education as an approved prerequisite for the Certified Shorthand Reporting Examination
- Prepares you to become a professional real time court reporter
- Provides training for television captioning for the hearing impaired
- Prepares the students to become educational reporters

National Court Reporters Association specific requirements for judicial reporting students:
- The student shall pass three 5-minute tests with 95% accuracy at each of the following speeds: 225 wpm, testimony (two-voice),200 wpm jury charge, and 180 wpm literary.
- The student shall complete at least 40 verified hours of internship.
Captioning Standards Option-minimum standards:
- Write a 5-minute, 180 wpm literary take with 1.4 syllabic density at 96% accuracy.
- Prepare a captioned translation of one-hour captioning services for course evaluation taken from the internship experience.
- The student shall complete at least 40 verified hours of actual writing time during internship.
