How much will it cost for the entire program?
$675 plus books. If you choose to take the CPR class at Macomb College, it will be an additional $95.
How much money will I have to pay for books?
$85. The price of books changes frequently. The best way to verify the price is to call the bookstore at Center Campus (586.286.2093) or South Campus (586.445.7385).
Is financial aid available?
Federal financial aid is not available for Continuing Education programs. However, this program is eligible for Michigan Works funds. Call your local MW site to learn how to qualify or go to http://www.mycareereducation.org.
Does Macomb College provide job placement?
Macomb does not provide job placement. Our Career Services department specializes in assisting you in your job search. Career Services is located at Center Campus G102, 586.445.7321 or South Campus G147, 586.286.2209.
Will I earn a certificate? Is it a national or state recognized certificate?
If you pass both exams with a score of 70% or better, you will receive the National Certification in Personal Fitness Training from World Instructor Training Schools, a nationally recognized provider.
Do I need to fulfill any requirements prior to signing up for this class?
No, but you must be CPR certified before the end of the class if you want to take the WITS Certified Fitness Trainer Exam and receive your certificate.
Where can I find CPR certification classes?
Macomb College offers CPR, First Aid and AED training as a separate class. You can take the class at any number of healthcare facilities or through the American Red Cross.
How many classes make up this program?
There is one class (36 hours). It is one half lecture and one half practical (hands-on) work. You will also need to be CPR Certified and must complete a 20 hour unpaid externship.
How long will it take to complete this program?
Most students complete the program in about three months.
What if I miss a class?
You are allowed one absence. Please notify the instructor if you are absent so you can get the missed assignment.
Tell me more about the externship.
If you currently frequent a gym or fitness facility you can ask if they would allow you to do your externship with them. If you do not have a facility in mind, WITS will assist in placing you in an externship. This will be covered in class. Your externship begins at the end of your Certified Fitness Training ensuring you are using the critical information that you’ve learned.
Can I still do the externship if I do not pass the test?
No, you must pass the both exams with a 70% or better to be granted an externship.
Can I retake the test?
Yes. You will be notified by WITS (exam provider) of the areas you need to focus on when retaking the exam. Exam retakes are usually within 4-6 weeks after original test date and can be scheduled through WITS.
Will I be guaranteed a job at my externship site?
No. However, you are much more likely to receive a job offer or a letter of reference if you are a stellar extern.
