How much does it cost to attend the Academy?
The Administrative Assistant Academy is free to those who qualify under No Worker Left Behind.
How much do books and materials cost for the Academy?
There is no cost for books or materials. All necessary supplies are provided.
What do I need to know about the computer to enroll in the Academy?
You will need to know basic navigation such as turning on the system, how to log onto the internet, and how to use a mouse.
How many words per minute (WPM) do I need to be able to type to enroll in the Academy?
It is helpful to be able to type 15-20 words per minute (WPM) in order to be able to keep up in class. Typing skills are practiced daily to build speed and competency.
Do I earn a certificate of completion at the end of the Academy?
Yes, a certificate of completion is awarded along with 24 CEU’s (Continuing Education Units)
How will the attending and graduating from the Academy assist in my job search?
Your resume will be redone to include all the Office 2007 skills learned in the Academy along with many other relevant skills. Additionally, each student completes a portfolio that showcases Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills learned in the Academy.
How do I find out if I qualify to attend the Academy?
Call Norine McElroy at (586) 445-7243 to pick up a referral form to take to your Michigan Works! case manager. Your Michigan Works! case manager will determine your eligibility.
